Description

Dec. 6, J JACOBS DISPENSING PACKAGE FOR POWDER PUFFS Filed April 30, 1952 Patented Dec. 6, l932 I UNITED STATES PATIENT orrlcls JOSEPH JACOBS, F BBIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE A. J. DONAHUE CORPORATION, OF MILFORD, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION I DISPENSING-PACKAGE FOR POWDER PUFFS*'Y Application filed April 30,
This invention relates to an'improvement in dispensing-packages for powder puffs, the object being to provide a simple and attractive carton which may contain a stack of powder puffs, with an opening at the bottom through which. the powder puffs may be: removed, and a closure for said opening.
The invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly re- 3 cited in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing: Fig. 1 isa side view of a dispensing-package for powder puffs;
Fig. 2 is an under-side view of the same; Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view on an en larged scale; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4.%
of Fig. 1, enlarged.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a 21') carton 10, preferably square in cross-section and formed in the usual manner of knock down cartons, the upper-ends 11 and 12 being folded over to close the top.
At the other end, the sides of the cartons are formed with snort flaps 18 which will turnoutward, and secured to the surface of a base 1 1, preferably rectangular to correspond to the design of the carton, and passed over the carton and also secured to the base 14.- and to the upper surface of the flaps 13,
is a retaining-plate 15.
The base is formed with a centrally-arranged circular opening 16, and secured to one corner of the base is a cover 17, and this cover is scored as at 18, so as to form a hinge and permit the main portion of the cover to drop downward and expose the opening 16. The cover, base and plate are graduated in size so as to form a stepped bottom for the carton.
Preferably one of the side corners of the carton will be cut away, forming a sightopening 19, and this opening will be closed by a sheet 20 of cellophane or other suitable transparent material, through which a stack of powderpufls 21 may be seen. The powder puffs are of usual construction, formed from soft material, and of a d ameter slightly larger than the diameter of the opening 16. The carton is filled with a stack of puffs 1932. Serial No. 608,482.
'which may be readily extracted with the fingers. Then, as the device is replaced. on the dresser, the cover is closed. This device may be ornamented to any extent so as to provide an attractive addition to a dressing table, and provides a number of puffs which may be used as desired and which are protected until the last one is removed.
The carton, base, plate and cover are preferably formed from paper so that they can be produced at a low cost for manufacture and discarded when empty,
Iclaim; V I 1. A dispensing-package for powder pufls 7 comprising a casing with the lower ends turned outward, a base to which the outwardly-turned ends are secured, a centrally-arranged opening in the base, anda cover adapted to close .said opening. y, 7 2. A dispensing-package for powder pufl's comprising a casing adapted to contain a V stack of powder puffs and closed at its upper v end, said casing formed at its lower end with outwardly-extending flanges, a base to the top of which said flanges are secured, a plate also secured to said base and overlapping said flanges, said base formed with a central opening, and a cover hinged to said base.
3. A dispensing-package for powder pufl's comprising a casing adapted to contain a stack of powder pufls and closedat itsupper end, said casing formed at its lower end with outwardly-extending flanges, a base to the top of which saidflanges are secured, a plate also secured to said base and overlapping said flanges, said base formed with a central opening, and a cover hinged to said base, one corner of the container cut away and the opening closed by a strip oftransparent material;
