Description

Patented Dec. 6, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT, OFFICE ISIDOR KITSEE, on PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, AssIGNoH 'ro MINERALITE con- No Drawing.
PORATION, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF. PENNSYL- VANIA I PRODUCING BOABD-LIKEMATERIAL WITH THE m or MINERAL 'wooI.
Application filed November 21, 1929. Serial no; 408,937,
My invention relates to an improvement in producing board-like material with the aid of mineral Wool. r
This invention may be applied to so-called slag wool, produced from the non-metallic residue of steel or iron furnaces; or it may be applied to so called rock-Wool, the natural product of rocks containing silicate and magnesia. I
To produce a board-like material such for instance as is used for wall boards one of the suitable operations is as follows: The mineral wool, either alone or, in conjunction with a dissolved silicate such as a silicate of sodium, potassium or other useful alkaline is intermixed with the mineral wool and the fiber, as above stated, added to the mineral wool plus dissolved silicate in a manner so that all three materials should forma homogeneous mass and then subjected in a mold to heat and pressure, whereby, a solid board-like structure is obtained. This board' can then be shaped with the aid of a saw or other like tools in desired dimensions.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. The improvement in producing a boardlike material consisting therein that the material out of which said board is fashioned, consists of mineral wool, and is provided on both surfaces with a material adapted to produce a smooth surface. v
i 2. As an article of manufacture, a stiff solid building board or the like comprising a homogeneous mixture of fibrous material and a binding substance, the principal part of the fibrous material being mineral wool and the board having smooth surfaces and being workable by tools into shapes as desired.
In testimony whereof I aflix my ture.
signa- ISIDOR In'rsEE.
