Description

PENCIL HOLDER Filed OCT.. 19. 1951 Patented Dec. 6, 1932 UNITED STATES GOTTFRID A. SKOOG, OF CHICAGO, ILLINS PENCIL HOLDER Application led October 19, 1931. SerialV No. 569,613.
This invention relates to an improved pencil holder, and has for one of its principal objects the provision of a holder for pencils and pens and similar articles which can be readily applied to the pocket of a user, and in such a way that pencils or the like can be conveniently inserted therein, and wherein he said articles are retained in the holder and secured against loss or accidental displacement.
One of the important objects of this invention is to provide a compact and neat appearing pencil holder which can be readily applied to the pocket or some other similar article of clothing of the user and which, while being always securely retained therein, is susceptible of ready removal if desired and without damaging the clothing in any way.
Another important object of this invention resides in the provision of a holder for pens or the like which is adapted for securely maintaining in desired position a plurality of such articles and in places where pencils or the like cannot ordinarily be conveniently supported such as the interior of an automobile or against a wall or other similar object.
Other and further important objects of the invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the accompanying drawing and following specification.
The invention, in a preferred form, is shown in the drawing and hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a front elevation of the improved pencil holder made in accordance with the principles of this invention.
Figure 2 is a side view thereof.
Figure 3 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 4 is a rear view thereof.
Figure 5 is a front View, showing a modification of the invention.
Figure 6 is a side view of the modification.
Figure 7 is a top view thereof.
Figure 8 shows a modified form of the modification.
As shown in the drawing:
The reference numeral l0 indicates generally a base or supporting plate of the imthereto is a gripping means 14 as best shown 60 in Figures 2 and 4, which comprises a strip of resilient metal shaped as illustrated and adapted to securely grip the upper edge 0f the users pocket or the like, whereby the pencil holder itself is securely supported in any desired position.
Obviously, pencils, pens orthe like can be` conveniently inserted into and withdrawn from the `elements l2 while at the same time the base portion itself will be securely Aretained in desired position in the users pocket or upon any other portion of the clothing or other appurtenances of the user.
It will be seen that the element 14 is bent inwardly as at 16 in Figure 2 so as to provide additional gripping points whereby possibility of accidental displacement will be positively eliminated.
The plate may be of any suitable material, preferably metal, and can be plated with a precious metal if desired, and furthermore may be inscribed with various insignia such as initials or some ornamental device whereby a very attractive piece of personal jewelry results and one which is essentially useful. e
A modilication of the invention is illustrated in Figures 5 to 7 inclusive wherein a supporting plate 20 is provided for the pencil holding clips or the like 22, these being illustrated as live in number, but it Will be obvious that any suitable number can be used as desired or necessary.
Mounted on the rear of the plate 20 is one or more suction cups 24 whereby the plate itself can be conveniently and readily fastened to some object for supporting purposes such as a pane of glass, for example, the windshield of an automobile or the like, or on the other hand, the device can just as conveniently placed upon any flat surface such as a desk,
wall, door, chair, or any other convenient spot for maintainingl in desired position one or more pencils or the like for ready access. Y
As best illustrated in Figure 8, the plate 20 may also have a hook or the like 26 applied thereto for convenient supporting of objects which are not susceptible of being placed into the holders 22.`
This device for use with the vacuum cups may also be made as ornamental or attractive as desired, and it will be evident that. herein is provided a convenient and accessible e support for pencils and similar articlesvwhichwill meet a long felt need in that it eliminates loss and accidental misplacement of these objects, and at the same time provides an attractive retaining means therefor which isnot subject to the objections of breakablity orcumbersomeness.
I am aware that many changes may be made and numerous details of construction varied throughout a wide range without departing from the principles of this inven tion, and I, therefore, do not purpose limiting Y the patent granted hereon otherwise than as necessitated by the prior art.
, I'claim as my inventiom' A pencil and pen holder, comprising in combination, a plate, a plurality of pen holduw ing loops on the forward face ofthe plate, each ofv said loops comprising an annular resilient collar. of spring wire fastened to the plate, and supporting means for the plate on the rear face thereof, said supporting means 35 l comprising suction cups, and a hook for sup- 4rpprting other objects on the front face of the p ate. l
In testimony whereof I aBX my signature.
