With these ends in view the invention embodies, a vertical tubular chamber positioned in theV center of a fire boX with an enlarged section adjacent the-.lower end and a horizontal baifie forcing gases passing downward toward the. outside of the said enlarged chamber,l and a fuel entry pipe extending downward through the said vertical tubular cham- 40 ber to a point adjacent the lower end of the said enlarged chamber.` A drip pan'with a conical member in the center may be used in combination with the said device and a connection may be made from the drippan to *anl automatic shut-0H valve located in the fuel supply pipe. 'Thepipe 2 also 100 extends continuosuly through the pipe 12 to the point 13. It will be `observed that as oil or the lilre passes through this pipe it willl form a j et inthe lower section 11 and it will be atomized and mixed with the heated air passing downward through the chamberl. It will be noted that with the chamber 1 positioned in this Ymanner the air will be drawn into the fire through the center of the tire box so that it will be heated thereby pro-l viding pre-heated air which isv mixed with the fuel to form the lire. The pipe 2 may be provided with a valve as indicated by "the numeral ltand may be connected to .an
automatic cut-od valve and the valve 15 isconnected by al pipe 16 tothe drip pan 3 which is positioned in the lower ypart of the furnaceso that any oil that is not burnt will pass to the cut-OE valve and shutoff the supply. A conical member 17` maybe placed in the center of the drip pan 3 or .maybe Vpositioned directly below the lower .end ofthe chamber 1 to spread the'gases in all directions asthey are injected into the fire boX.
The burner may be'provided' with wires 18 anda coil 19 and the wires maybe positioned so that they will extend into the fire boXto the point 2O which is directly below the lower end of the member 12 so that a spark may be supplied either continuously or when desired to ignite thefuel. Itis understood that this sparking means may be omitted if desired.
A stack temperature control device 21 may also be provided which is connected to the shut-off valve, through a connection 22, in such a manner thatrit will operate the valve when the .stack temperature drops kbelow apredeter-mined degree. f
rlfhe cross section shown in Figure 2 is through the chamb er 8 and shows lthe position s of the baffle i9 and the small fue-l supply'tube 2'with thelarger tube-12 surrounding it. The :tube 12 protects the fuel" from the extreme heat ofthe fire as the stack draft will draw air through this small tube and also through the casing 1 at ak comparatively high velocity.
In the design shown in Figure 3 the burner is installed in a heater or stove'23, with 'the casing 1 extending directly out ofthe top of the stove so that the draft will be drawn directly downward as the fire burns, and the stack becomes heated. rThe device will operate similar to thatshown in-Figure 1.

rlfhe constructionwill be readily understood from the foregoing description. In use the device may be provided and installed as shown with the oil supply pipe connected to any suitable means for supplying oil and by opening the valve 14 and igniting the fuel at the lower end of the section 11 of the chamber 1 the fire will be started and it will be volrznvn through the casing 1 andas soon as e the stackbecomes hea-ted it will draw lthe vair :downwardthrough this Vcasing with considlerable velocity and thereby through, the center of the fire, so that its temperature will be` raised to a high Vdegree when it mixes with the oil, or other fuel. It will ktherefore be observed that the device will have the highest possible eficiency as the hot point normally existingin the center of the furnace isspread outward against the fire-box walls, and the air mixing with the fuel passes downward throughthe center ofthe firebox so that its temperature is raised yto a very high degree before it mixes with the fuel ,at the point of combustion. This air may be-controlled by a damper, as'indicated by the numeral 24, at the outer end ofthe casing 1, as shown in Figure 3.

In a device of the character described, a vertical .tubular member, an enlarged chamber with outwardly and upwardly inclined sides in thesaid tubular member adjacent the 'lower end thereo'f,.a fuel supply pipe extending downwardin `the ysaid tubular member and terminating a short distance from the end thereof,and Vconical member spaced a short distancefrom the end of the said 'tu-bular member Aand in Iaxial :alignment therewith, said device being adaptable'to be positubular member with the supply pipe in the same relation thereto extending to the outer wall of the furnace.
4. In a device of the character described, a vertical vtubular member, an enlarged chamber with outwardly and upwardly inclined sides in the said tubular member adjacent the lower end thereof, a fuel supply pipe extending downward in the said tubular member and terminating a short distance from the end thereof, and a horizontal baflie plate in the said enlarged chamber closing the center of the chamber and leaving'a space around the outer edge. y

In a burner of the class described, a furnace, a vertical tubular member positioned in the center of the fire box of the said furnace and terminating a comparatively short distance from the bottom of the said lire box, an enlarged chamber with outwardly and upwardly sloping sides formed in the said tubular member a short distance from the lower end thereof, a horizontal baffle plate in the said enlarged chamber, a fuel supply pipe extending downward through the tubular member and through the baiiie and terminating at a point adjacent the lower end of the said enlarged chamber, a conical member positioned below and spaced from the lower end of the said tubular chamber, and a drip pan below the saidtubular member.

In a device of the class described, a furnace, a vertical tubular chamber positioned in the center of the lire box of the furnace, a connection from the said verticalchamber to the exterior of the furnace, an enlarged chamber in the said vertical chamber adja pipe extending through the vertical chamber to a point a` cent the lower end, a fuel supply short distance from the lower end, a similar tubular casing surrounding the said fuel supply pipe and positioned in the center of the said tubular chamber, and a conical member in axial alignment with the said vertical chamber and spaced a short distance from the t lower end thereof, the said tubular member with the supply pipe in the same relation Vthereto extending to the outer wall of the furnace. j
7. In a device of the class described, a furnace, a vertical tubular chamber positioned in the center of the fire-box of the furnace, a
connection from the said vertical chamber tothe exterior of the furnace, an enlarged chamber in the said vertical chamber and adjacent the lower end, a fuel supply pipe extending through the vertical chamber to a point a short distance from the lower end, a similar tubular casing surrounding the saidfuel supply pipe and positioned 'in they center of the said tubular chamber, and a horizontaly baille plate in the said .enlarged chamber closing` the centerof the chamber and leaving a pas-` sage around the outer edge of .said plate.
