CLAUD H. BILLS AND GLENN G. GRISWOLD, OF LOiANGELES, CALIFORNIA DISTRIBUTOR HEAD "A imation filed April 10,
j acent the head and at a considerable distancetherefrom.
Another object is to provide a distributor head which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and effective in use. Other objects, advantages, and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawing, the subjoined detailed descrip tion, and the appended claims.
In the drawing Figure l is a front elevation of our distributor head.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the head shown in Fig. 1, the lower half being in section.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view, half in section, of the distributor head.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, our distributor head 1 comprises a body 2 which includes a base plate or fiange3 integral therewith so that the distributor head may be secured to the inner face of a tank containing oil, or the like, or to a wall, or any suitable face to which a-liquid outlet extends. The front wall 4 of the body is arcuate in shape so that water or the like is distributed in a horizontal plane over the entire area adjacent to the wall, or the like, to which the head is secured. I v The wall 4 is formed of two angular faces 40 in which a plurality of ducts or ports 5 are arranged. These ports converge. so that the liquid streams passing therethrough will 1mpingeupon each other and cause a fine fog or mist which spreads over the surface of the 5 oil in the tank, or passes into the room to effectively extinguish a fire. Due to the arouate shape of the distributor head, the streams which pass into the tank or room are in the shape ofa fan or a segment of a circle, thus 0 effectively covering the area in the tank or 1931. Serial No. 529,050.
room on both sides as well as in front of the distributor head.
A pair of arcuate ribs 67 are integrally formed with the body 2, and these ribs are positioned above and below the [ports 5 for the purpose of more effectively directing the mist or fog horizontally into the tank or the room. A deflecting rib 8 extends inwardly from the front wall 4 for the purpose of deflecting the liquid both upwardly and downwardly into the ports 5.
- Stepped back from the front face 4, and positioned below said face, we provide a second ring distributor 9. This ring or hollow circular body depends from the body 2 and its purpose is to distribute a mist or fog immediately adjacent to the head, both below and slightly to the front and rear in that area which is not touched by the mist from the ports 5. A plurality of converging ports 10 are provided in the body 9 through which liquid streams ass, as will be evident. A baflie plate 11 1s detachably secured to the .bottom of the'circular body 9 by means of a screw 12.
It will be evident from the foregoing description that we'have provided a distributor head which not only covers a large arcuate area'around the head, but also covers the area immediately below and adjacent to the head. 30 This last feature is very vital in oil tanks in which the fire at the edge of the tank, immediately below the head must also extinguished or the entire body of oil will again start to burn.
Having described our mventlon, we cla1m: 1. A distributor head comprising a unitary structure having a liquidchamber therein, said head having an arcuate face provided with a set of related converging portsto despray downwardly and outwardly from said head.
2.-'A'distributor head comprising a unitary structure having a li quid'chamber therein, said head having an arcuate face provided with a set of related converging ports to deliver a horizontal spray therefrom, and a sec- 0nd set of relatedports under the first named set of ports arranged'to discharge a spray downwardly and outwardly from said head, said head havin a flange extending inward- 1y into the chamber between the related ports of the first named set of ports.
3. A, distributor head comprising a unitary structure having: a base plate; a body extending horizontally from said base late having a liquid chamber therein, said ody terminating in an arcuate shaped discharge nozzle having a horizontally disposed V- shaped groove formed therein with corresponding outlet ports arranged to discharge a horizontal fan shaped spray, and said body having a second set of outlet ports angularly disposed with respect to each other to discharge a spray downwardly and outwardly from said head. v I
In testimony whereof, we afiix our signatures.
CLAUD H. BILLS. I GLENN G. GRISVVOLD.
