Description

Nov. 15, ,1932. C, H, J4 TRUMAN 1,887,665
REFRIGERATING GASKET Filed May 25, 1931 Patented Nov. 15, 1932 CHARLES H. J'. TRUMAN, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA REFRIGERATING GASKET Application led May 25, 1931.
This invention is a refrigerating casket and has special reference to a casket of composite structure provided with a -cooling chamber in which ice or other refrigerant may be placed.
The main object of the invention is to provide a casket with refrigerating means.
Another object of the invention is to form the casket in two parts, an external, ornamental exterior casing and an interior casket interiorly decorated, the casket and casing being spaced apart to form a compartment all around and underneath for reception of a refrigerant.
A further object of the invention is to provide a casket as outlined with the same exterior appearance as the usual casket.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the following description is read on the drawing forming al part of this specification and in which similar reference characters are used to indicate similar parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Fig. 1 is al plan view of the invention with part of the cover broken away and the casing cover removed;
F ig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation through the invention.
The casing 10 consists of the usual ornamental structure which may be of wood,
covered with plush or other ornamental material, or of bronze, oxidized silver, or any other usual finish and also provided with the usual handles 11 at ends and sides. The usual cover 12 with glass covered opening 13 is also provided. The invention consists of a water proof lining 14 which is preferably made of metal such as zinc and spaced from the casing 10, the intervening space being filled or packed with heat insulating niaterial 15. A suitable outlet is provided as indicated at 16. A plurality of spacing members 17 are secured to the bottom, and similar spacing members 18 are secured to the sides and ends.
The casket is finished interiorly as in dicated at 19 in the usual manner with suitable trimming and padding, and consists of a 5G water proof case 20 having handles 21 by Serial No. 539,782.
means of which it may be lifted, and may be constructed of wood with an exterior cover of copper or zinc, and is adapted to fit between the spacers 18 and rest on the spacers 17. A cover 22 has a glass enclosed opening 23 in registry with the opening 13 in the casing cover, and fastening means 24 which may consist of screws with ornamental heads. Openings are provided through the cover 22 to receive the handles 21.
In use, the casket is disposed within the casing as shown, and the space between the casket and casing filled with ice or other refrigerant, liquid being drained ofi through the faucet 16 as may be required. The casket is readily removed from the casing by means of handles 21.
Having described an operative method of constructing and using the invention, it
will be understood that variations in construction and arrangement of parts which are consistent with the appended claims may be resorted to without detracting from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof:
I claim 1. A refrigerating casket comprising an outer casing provided with an interior water proof lining and a removable cover for said casing, a casket within said casing, said caket being exteriorly provided with a water proof covering, spacing elements for positioning said casket within said casing, a covei' for said casket coextensive with the inside of said casing thereby coincidently forming a closure for the space between the casket and 2. In combination with a casing and a casket positioned in said casing to form a refrigerant receiving space between the casing and the casket; a removable cover for said casket coincidently forming a cover for the refrigerant receiving space whereby the eii'ect of continuity of the casket cover with the casing is provided.
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed by signature.
CHARLES H. J TRUMAN.
