In Fig. 5 amodified form of construction is depicted and'in-this instance the sections 10 and 19 have provided therebetween a middle section 33, thereby defining air chambers 34 and 35. In this form of construction straps 36 are provided which are substantially. similar to the straps 20 but include 'longer offset portions 37; which project through the section 33. V Depicted in Fig. 6 is one form of orna mental surface'gthat may be formed in the surface of the'outer wall 11 of the section 10 though. it is understood that any desired form ofornamental surfacing may be formed on the surface of the outer wall. From the foregoing description of our invention it is manifest that we have provided an improved building unit which embodies dead air chambers providing a highly efficient wall insulation against heat and cold. It is likewise apparent that while being durable, economical and simple in construction our improved unit permits of rapid assembly in building thereby effecting a material economy in labor. r While we have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying our invention into eflect, this is capable of variation and modification, without departing from the spirit of the invention. We, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail ourselves of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appendedclaims. 7
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to protect by Let ters Patent is: j
1. A building unit-comprising spacedapart sections defining an air. chamber therebestrap members including an offset portion extended across said first-named air chamberand having its endsembedded in said sections, and the portions of said strap members atoppo'site sides of'said oifset portions hav-, ing perforations therein through which the material composing the said sections l'is adapted to extend.
2. A' building unit comprising spaced apart outer sections, a middle section dis posed between and spaced apartgfromsaid outer sections defining a plurality of air chambers therebetween, each of said outer sections havlng an air chamber defined interlorly thereof, said outer sections including end portions, a tongue in one end portion of each of said outer sections, each of said outer sections having a groove formed therein in the end portion thereof opposite said tongue, the tongue of one outer section being adapted in assembled position to be fitted into the groove of the next adjacentcorrespond ing section, and means for securing said outer sections and said middle section in spaced relation to define said first-namedair chambers, said means including strap Inembers provided with offset portions extendedacross said first-named air chambers and through said middle section; 4 *3. A building unit comprising spaced apart outer sections each having an intra-' wall air chamber defined therein, a middle section disposed between andspaced' from said outer sections to provide therewith'a plurality of interwall air chambers, and strap members each including an offset portion 'exan interwall air chamber, and means for con} necting said sections together in spaced relationship to provide said interwall chamher, said means comprising a member including an offset portion extended across said interwall chamber and having its ends embedded in said sections at the ends of said intrawall chambers, the embedded portions of said member having apertures therein through which the material composing said sections is bonded. 5 In testimony whereof we affix our signa-- tures.
