This invention relates to storage buildings and more particularly to garages of the type having storage floors located at different levels and connected by ramps over which the automobiles may be driven under their own power from floor to floor to reach their respective storage spaces. Important 10bjects of the invention are to provide for the construction of such a garage from previous-- ly fabricated parts adapted to be conveyed to the building site and readily set up there to form the structure; to provide such a garage whose storage capacity may be readily varied according to the requirements of its patronage; and to provide a knock down garage structure capable of being readily taken down, removed in parts to another site and erected again.

such as panels preferably formed of sheet metal. Certain panels form individual storage compartments and :alsothe outer walls of the building; other panels form driveway floors along said compartments; still other panels form ramps connecting the driveway floors; and all of said panels are releasably connected together to form a strong structure.
The panels forming the individual storage compartments are assembled upon the building site to form four straight parallel-banks 0f compartments. These banks are designated 1 2, 3 and 4. In each bankthe compartments are disposed side by side in superposed horizontal rows. Banks 1 and 2 are upon the same level and arespaced apart to define a corridor space into which thecompartments thereof open. Banks 3 and 4 aresimilarly disposed with relation to each other but are supported ata staggered level with relationto banks 1 and 2 and with thecompartments of the staggered banks 2 and 3 disposed back to back along a vertical division plane at the center of the building. Preferably the vertical ofiset or stagger between the banks is equal to one half a story, or one half the height of a compartment.
In forming the'compartments side panels 5, end panels ,6, and top and bottom panels 7 are employed. In each bank'adjacent side by side compartments have a common side panel 5 and adjacent superposed compartments have a common panel 7 which forms the top of one and the bottom of the other, as indicated in Fig. 5. The back to back compartments of the staggered banks 2 and 3 also have common end panels 6 therebetween. Along the corners of each compartment the panels are removably or releasably joined together. Inthe present instance the panels are shown as secured to angle irons 8 by Other suitable ]O1111I 1g' means of bolts 9. means may be employed, however. Each compartment built up from the "panels ispreferably of a size and shape to accommodate an automobile and provide sufficient clearance around it. However, it may be made large enough to accommodate several automobiles.
At two points spaced along the central clivision plane of the building the staggered compartment banks 2 and 3 have several vertical rows of compartments omitted to form gaps or transverse corridor spaces connecting the two longitudinal corridor spaces between the banks. Mounted in the latter corridor spaces are superposed driveway floors 10 and 11 extending along the length of said spaces and leading to all of the compartments therealong. Disposed in the said transverse corridor spaces are two groups of superposed ramps 12 and 13. Ramps 12 lead.
upward in succession from the driveway floors 10 to the adjacent staggered driveway floors 11 while the ramps 13 are oppositely inclined and lead from floors 11 to floors 10, so that the floors and ramps form a substantially spiral path for automobile trafiic to and from the compartments at all levels.
Each, of the driveway floors is preferably formed of a series of panels 14: extending across the corridor space. At its'opposite ends each panel 14 is removably supported by the compartment structures which it transversely connects and is substantially the width of a compartment. In the present instance the forward edges of the compartment panels 7 carry beams 15 forming ledges upon which the ends of the floor panels rest and are removably secured by bolts 16. Each ramp is also preferably formed of a series of transverse panels 17 extending across the transverse corridor spaces and removably bolted as at 18 to supporting beams 19. The latter are removably bolted as at 20, to the adjacent compartment panels 5 of the banks 2 and 3. At the ends of the ramps the latter and their connecting driveway floors are re-' movably bolted as at 21 to supporting beams 22 extending across the gaps in the banks 2 and 3 and removablysupported in any suitable manner by the compartment structures of said banks.
In the set up structure just described the end panels 6 of the compartments and the outermost side panels 5 form the outer side and exit for the automobile traliic.
My invention provides a very desirable set-up and take-clown garage structure. The
various compartment, floor and ramp panels will be made preferably in standard sizes and may be ordered from a manufacturer in the required number'and conveniently transported in'a flat, compact form to the building site. Without extensive excavation or other preparation they may be readily set up 011 a vacant lot or field. The erection may be only tentative and the proprietor may at first set up only a modest. number of compartments. Upon an increase of patronage beyond the capacity of the garage the proprietor may easily enlarge the latter either vertically or laterally by erecting more compartments and by adding to the driveway floors and ramps. The various panels are all designed for this convenient build up. If, on the other hand, the location of the garage should prove to be a bad one, or it should be required to vacate the land, the garage may be readily knocked down, transported to another location and again set up.
The various panels forming the compartments, the driveway floors, theramps and the building walls are all preferably made of sheet metal reinforced by any suitable means. There are six species of panels in the building structure namely, the compartment side panels 5, the compartment top and bottom panels 7, the floor panels 14, the ramp panels 17 and the closure panels 23. The panels of each species are all similarly formed and are interchangeable.
In order to retain heat in the garage build ing during cold weather and also to shield it from the heat of the sun-during hot weather the outermost panels of the building may be provided with heat insulating means, as shown in Figs. 15 to 17 inclusive. Here each outermost panel has its outer face covered by an independently fabricated heat insulating panel, each outermost compartment side panel 5 having an insulating panel 5 each compartment end panel 6 having an insulating panel G each uppermost compartment panel 7 having an insulating panel 7 each uppermost panel lbearing an insulating panel 14?, eachuppermost ramp panel 17 having an insulating panel 17 and each corridor closing panel 23 having a panel 23*. The structure of each insulating panelin lid the present instance comprises a sheet 25 of celotex, cork or other suitable insulating material enclosed by sheet metal 26. The panel so formed is of the same shape and size as the panel which it covers, or substantially so, and is detachably secured thereto by bolts 27. All of the main panels are preferably provided with bolt apertures for the attachment of the insulation panels so that any of he main panels may be used in the outermost positions when erecting the building. When the insulating panels are all applied in the erected building they form continuous side walls.
While I have shown and described a very desirable form of my invention I do not wish to be limited strictly to this disclosure but reserve the right to make such changes as will lie within the scope of the claims.
