Description

Nov. l8, 1932. K. THOMAS WATER CLOSET DOUCHE Filed oct. s1,
ngz l /lljj Patented Nov.` 8, 1932 N UNITED sTATEs KURT THOMAS, F BEBLI'IT. GERMANY WATER CLOSET DQUCHE Application led October 31, 1929, Serial No.
This invention relates more especially to 15 vide mechanism of improved construction within eas reach of patient, doctor or nurse for contro ling the several parts and functions of the apparatus.
Other and further objects of invention will appear in the specification while the elements related thereto will be recited in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a preferred embodiment of my invention, portions of the water-closet bowl to which it is applied being shown in section.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same with the seat removed.
seat; Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the seat. The water-closet bowl lrestson the floor 2, a column or housing 3 for the water supply pipe being arranged on one side of said bowl while a coluinnor housing 4 for the air supply pipe is arranged. on the other side thereof. At the upper ends of the columns 3 and 4 are arranged oscillatory valve-heads 5 and 6 provided with handles 7 and 8 for controlling the flow of waterand air to the branches 9and 10 of the water and air- pipes 12 and 13, said branches being carried by the `valve-heads 5 and 6 and providedv at their outer ends with suitable nozzles for the-water and air douches. -A water tank .14' which discharges into the upper end of water pipe 12, is provided with valves 1 5 and 16 for controllingV the supply of hot-v or cold water rto the water pipe 12. Within a housing 17 may be arranged a ventilator fan or blower Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the.
inwardly. For this `In, order that this retaining'- mechanism `sion springs, which lift the seat as soon as 4os,s14, :ma in Germany numbers, 192s.
driven by electricity under the control of a switch 18, suitable heating coils (not'shown) being preferably under the control of switch 18. By an inspection of Fig.` lof the drawing, it will be seen that the water valves and blower control may be mounted within easy reach and a little to one side of the manipulator.
As shown in Figs.- 1 and 2 of the drawing, a bent bracket arm 19 may be mounted at its lower end. in a fixed collar 20 on the column 3, a prong 21 at its upper end being arranged to have one end of a spring 22 connected thereto. The other end of said sprin is attached to a collar 23 on the swinging ranch 9 of the water pipe. As shown in Fig. 2, the bracket arm 19 is provided with a second prong 32 which carries an abutment 33 against which the ,oscillatory branch 9 is normally retained by the tension of spring 22.
' It will be understood from this description that by grasping the handle 7 or the-handle 8 'and moving it inwardly as indicated by one or the other of the arrows shown in Fig. 2, the corresponding water or air douche 1s 75 swung into service position where it may be releasably locked by suitable means such, for example, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. Thus, to the under surface of the hinged seat 24, may be secured a beveled block ory stop 26 over which a movable dog 27. is adapted to ride when the branch 9 or 10 swings purpose the dog 27 is pressed by a spring 28 into normal engagement with a stop plate 29, these parts being suitably mounted upon the swinging brano by means` of fixed and movable gripper arms 25 and 30 whichvmay be clamped in position by a screw at 31. 90 maybe automatically released for permitting the douches to be returned to initial position under the tension of' springs 22, the seat 24 may be provided with suitable compres- 95 the weight of the person using it has been removed therefrom, the dog or dogs 27 being thereby released and the douche ordouches being therefore permitted to return to original position.
, the combination with a seat, of a cleansing iiuid douche movable into and out of service position with respect to said seat, and a drying iiuid douche movable independently of and relatively to said cleansing iuid douche into and out of service position with respect to said seat.
4. In a device of the character described, the combination with a Water-closet bowl of a sea-t movable upwardly and downwardly with respect to said bowl, cushioning means adapted to sustain said seat in spaced relation to the upper edge of said Water-closet bowl and to impart an u ward displacement thereto when relieved o a person s Weight, a pipe branch provided on its extremity with a douche nozzle, said pipe branch being oscillatable horizontally in the space between said bowl and seat between inoperative and service positions, means for supplying cleansing iluid to said oscillata-ble pipe-branch, means interengageable between said seat in lowered position and said oscillatable pipe-branchgfor retaining the latter in service position, and means for returning said pipe-branch .and douche nozzle to inoperative position when an upward movement of said seat'releases said interengageable means.
5. In a device of the character described, the combination with a seat, of a-cleansing fluid douche movable into and out of .service position with respect to said seat, and a drying fluid douche. movable independently of and relativelyto said cleansing iuid douche into and out of service position with respect to said seat, each of said douches being provided with seat-controlled releasable means for holding it in service position.
6. In a device of the character described, the combination with a seat, of a cleansing assess-o able seat, a seat-douche, an' air-douche, said douches terminating in pipes moveable towards the middle or said bowl, a spring tending to hold one or said pipes in one extreme position, and a clutch. under the control ci said movable seat for maintaining said pipe in the opposite extreme position.
