This invention relates to certain novel improvements in cleaning devices, especially adaptable for cleaning sediment or other foreign matter from air-vents of heating radiators and the like, and has for its principal object the provision of an improved construction of this character which will be highly etficient in use.

It is common practice to associate with a steam radiator or the like a device known as an air vent, the purpose of which is well known to those skilled in the art. The air vent embodies, in general, a vent opening, passage through which is normally controlled by a selective valve mechanism which is capable of adjustment to permit emission of air from the radiator when the same becomes air bound or to revent the radiator from becoming air bound The expulsion of air or partly vapor- 29 ized water through this air vent frequently carries with it minute foreign matters or deposits which corrode or collect at the vent opening and consequently close passage therethrough resulting in the air binding of the radiator or the like and resulting in the lack and loss of heat radiation. To overcome this it has been the custom to supplant the inoperative air vent with a new air vent or take the defective airvent apart for the purpose of removing these minute foreign matters or deposits. This results in considerable expense and labor, and oftentimes rather than clean the air vent, the same is completely discarded.

' It is, therefore, one of the many objects of this invention to provide a cleaning device which is portable in character, and which may be expeditiously utilized for readily and expeditiously cleaning the air passage and re moving the minute foreign matter or deposits therefrom, thus resulting in the saving of time and expense, and the replacement of complete new air vents or partsthereof.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing showing the preferred form of construction,

The cleaning device embodyingsmy inven tion includes a body 13 which may be of any conventional or convenient'shape ordesign. This body 13 provides a container for a cleansing liquid 14. As myinvention is not concerned with the character of this cleansing material, the same may be of any character such as will best serve the purpose, and such that is ofiensive to rust or corrosion.

The body 13 is provided with an opening 15 in which is mounted a ring 16, and this ring 16 is provided with an opening 17 threaded Y to receive the threaded nipple or stem 11. The'opposite corresponding side walls 18 of the body 13 are preferably formed of such material as will allow these walls to be manually compressed or buckled inwardly for the purpose of compressing the liquid within the body 18 to expel the same through the air vent 10.

In use, the air vent, when rendered inoperative, is removed from connection with the radiator and threaded to the ring 16. After this is done the opposite corresponding side walls of the body are compressed or flexed inwardly, which compresses the liquid with in the body 13 and causes the same to be projected through the Vent. The force of expulsion of the liquid will remove any foreign matters or deposits from the vent passage in the air vent 10 and consequently thoroughly cleanse the air vent, rendering the same again operative. After the air vent has been thoroughly cleaned the same is removed from connection with the ring 16, and reconnected to the radiator. I

To prevent the liquid from being discharged from the container when not in use, a plug 19 is provided and this plug 19 is threaded into the opening 17. This opening 17 is utilized for the admission of the cleansing liquid into the container.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limitedto the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is: r

A device for cleansing a radiator air '2 vent comprising a body providing a container and having an opening formed in one wall thereof and provided with opposite corresponding Wall portions capable of being manually compressed or'flexed, and means mounted in said opening to connect said body and the air vent.
