Description

NOV. 1, 1932. c w MULLER 1,886,115
TUBE LIKE CONTAINER FOR CIGARS Filed March 5, 1951 atri her. i, rear GARE; WILHELM fiIllLLER, OF DREFQDEN-WEL'SSER EIRSGH, GERMANY TUBE-LIKE CGN'EAXNER Fin/R CIGARS Application filed March 5, 1931, Serial No. 520,231, and in Germany November 13, 1930.
In the case of cigars it is often desirable to provide each individual cigar with a separate envelope. In so doing the envelope must be made in such a way that the goods are hermetically enclosed and dust, bacteria,
or the like are excluded.
This invention solves this problem in that the ends of the tube-like container which extend beyond the cigar are pressed flat and tpen closed by alat-shaped cap covering the s it.
To facilitate the opening of the envelope it is advantageous to form a perforation in the tube in the zone of the cap hermetically 1 connected with the flattened ends of the tube, by adhesion or the like, or in the cap.
It might be supposed that, from the manufacturers point of View, it would be siinpler, merely to fold over the flattened ends 29 of the tube, but this would produce an airtight closure only if the folded flaps were stuck to the tube, and at the same time also if the inner sides of the flattened end of the tube were provided with adhesive to connect them together, as otherwise an entrance would be left for dust, bacteria, or like impurities.
Such a thing is rendered impossible by the formation of the envelope according to this 30 invention, the mass production of which can be carried out by quite simple means and cheaply. I
Figs. 1 and 2 of the annexed drawing illustrate the invention. They are, respectively, a side view and a plan of a method of construction of the new packing envelope, with a cigar enclosed.
The tube-like envelope a enclosing the cigar e is pressed flat at both ends. The two U-shaped clips 5 are placed over the fiattended ends. in order to obtain a complete and tight closure, it is preferable to allow the clips to project somewhat beyond the ends of the envelope. In the present form of construction, an adhesive is previously applied to the inner side of the clips, and then the ends are pressed and stuck together. The
"clips can, of course, be attached to the ends of the envelope in any other manner as de sired,- provided a substantially air-tight closure is produced. In order to facilitate the opening of the envelope, it is preferable that the end facing the point of the cigar should be provided with a row of perforations 0 or the like forming a perforated seam. Care must of course be taken to see that the perforated seam is also sealed by the clip. If the closing is effected, for instance, by a roller or the like, the rolled seam itself facilitates the opening and makes it unnecessary to perforate the ends of the envelope. 7
Having thus described the nature of the said invention and the best means I know of carrying the same into practical effect, I claim 1. An envelope for cigars comprising a tube-like container whose ends are flattened and pressed together without folding, one of said ends being provided with a row of perforations, and a U-shaped clip mounted it over each of said flattened ends, the clip over the perforated ends covering said row of perforations and said clips effecting air tight sealing of said container.
2. A cigar envelope comprising a tubular 7 container whose ends are flattened and pressed together without folding, one of said ends having a laterally extending row of perforations, and a U-shaped clip mounted over and gumined to each flattened end, the clip over the perforated end covering said row of perforations and said clips effecting air tight sealing of said envelope.
3. A cigar envelope comprising a tubular container whose ends are flattened and pressed together, one of said ends having a laterally extending row of perforations, and a U-shaped clip mounted over and gummed to each flattened end, the clip over the perforated end covering the row of perforations and said clips extending beyond the respective ends over which they are mount ed to eflect air tight sealing of said envelope.
in testimony whereof I atfix mysignature. CARL wrnnnnn MULLER.
