Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. ESQ-.5190, dated March 20, 1677; application tiled February 21, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Amos W. iOA'lES, of Alliance, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and uselul Improvement in Scissors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear. and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification. in which my invention is represented by a plan view.
My invention relates to certain improvements in guarded scissors, or scissors provided with protective end guards, designed for the use of little children, to protect them against accidents, which are liable to occur from their careless handling of scissors pro vided with sharp points.
. The object of my invention is to provide a simpler, more durable, and more easily-con- "vnrdly from their respective cutting-edges,
and then around in circular form: to produce a terminal loop, ring, or eye, B. These loops, rings, or eyes, it will be seen, operate as protective guards to the ends of the scissors, and also permit the scissors to be hung up thereby with the handles in proper li'ree position ready to be grasped. and, furthermore, the guards are thus made of a. part oil the scissors themselves, and are not liable to become loosened or detached.
As shown, the guards are made in the plane of the-blades and handles; but as a modification of my invention they may be made at right angles 20 the plane of said blades; or, in other words, the points of the scissors may be bent around laterally instead of edgewise. With the guards bent outwardly from the cutting-edges, however, and in the plane of the blades, as shown, a better cutting-edge at this point is secured.
Having thus described my invention, what i claim as new is- As a new article of manufacture, a pair of scissors having each blade provided with a protective and guard, made in the form of a. loop, ring, or eye. substantially as and for the purpose described.
