Description
I. A. WRIGHT.
' OIL CABINET.
d March 20. 1877.
Patente UNITED STATES PATENT firmer IMPROVEIVIENT m OIL-CABINETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 188,560, dated March 20, 1877 application filed February 24, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A.WRIGH'1, of Keene, in the county of Cheshire and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Tanks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to render tanks for holding oils and liquids in bulk more convenient and desirable for the general use of retailers or dealers in oils; and it consists in furnishing a proper and suitable receptacle for the tunnels, measures, and the drippings of the oil from the withdrawing-faucets of the tank, as well as to avoid the necessity of pumping the oil from the bottom of the tank.
The tank may be constructed of Wood or metal, and has two compartments, the upper one for holding the oil, and the lower compariment having a drawer, which may he opened and shut at pleasure for the reception of the measuring-utensils, as well as the drippings of the oil, as hereinafter moreparticnlarlydescribed.
In the drawing is a view of a tank embodying my invention. A represents the tank proper, or upper compartment, for the reception of oil, which is drawn from the bottom of the tank by the faucet F. B is the lower compartment for the reception of the drip holder or drawer D. H is the face-piece of the drawer, which is provided with an aperture to receive the escape-tube of the funnel E, which may he removed to be cleaned or repaired.
The two sides and back of the drawer are cut away, to allow the measures to be more easily removed when filled. The front side of the drawer closes tight on the front side of the tank, hiding the measuringutensils from View, and excluding all odors arising from the oil.
The bottom of the drip-holder is provided with longitudinal slats s s, on which the measures rest, allowing the oil to drip into the bottom of the holder. At the rear of the drawer is a faucet,f, from which the drippings can be emptied into the compartment A. In the front side of the drawer the drip conductor or funnel E conveys any oil which may fall from the faucet F into the drawer D. The faucet F is screwed into a metallic bushing, from which it may he removed, and a stopper inserted for the convenience of transportation. The drip conductor or tunnel is removable for the same purpose. The tank may be made singly, or consist of several independent compartments, with a drawer un der each, for holding different kinds of oils or liquids.
The compartments are all provided with a metallic bushing and stopper, which may be opened or closed when it is desired to use two or more compartments for the same kind of oil.
The tank, if constructed of wood, may be lined with adhesive compounds, indissoluble in oils, or with sheets of metal, to prevent the oil from saturating the wood.
I claim as my inventionl. The drawer D, with the slats s s and the emptying-faucet f, in combination with the tank A.
2. The combination of an oil-tank having a faucet, F, with a drawer having a remova hie funnel supported in its face-piece, as and for the purposes set forth.
3. The drawer D, having a drip-funnel in its face-piece and cut-away sides, as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN A. WRIGHT.
Witnesses:
GEORGE A. NnwnLL, HIRAM BLAKE.
