hips the'lower end of the trunk is yieldinglyand movably connected.
Another. object-is to providea joint between the trunk and support which will permit the trunk to be swung in a wide circle to assume various angles and be maintained in any one of the angles by frictional contact of the coacting surfaces.
7 Another object is to provide certain im-" provements in the form, construction and'arrangement of the several'parts whereby the above named and other objects may effectively be attained.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawing,
in which V Fig. 1 represents a side elevation of my fig- .urette showingin dotted outline the trunk and adj acent parts in different positions; 7
1*ig. 2 represents a front elevation of the same; 7
Fig. 3 represents a detail vertical section taken in the plane of the line II'I-III of Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrows; and l 7 Fig.4 represents a detail vertical section taken in the plane of the line IVVIV of Fig.
1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
The figurette comprises a support denoted by 1, a hollow trunk denoted by 2 movable on said support and having a head 3 and arms 4, 5 hinged to swing on the trunk.
The support 1 comprises feet 6, 7, legs 8,
9, thighs 10, 11, hips 12, 13, which thighs and hips are connected at 14 to form a uni- V tary structure capable of supporting the trunk and its adjacent parts. The portion of thesupport between the hips 1.2, 13 is formed with a concave recess 15 which is arranged to receive the convexed lower end 16 the hon-OW trunk Th ,t'rllnk2 is pro.- vlded with inwardly i g, ockets 17,
18 for'the reception ofsemi- spherical ends 19,20 of the arms4, 5,'respe ctively. The convexed lower end 16 of the trunk is 'main- ,55
'tained in position in the concave recess 15 of the support 1 by means ofa link 21 of metal" or other suitable material which has one end secured inj the connection 14, while the other end is extended upwardly and its outer endis formed into a'hook 22. vThis link 21 extends upwardlyfrom' the center of the concave recess 15 throughan enlarged hole 23'inY-the convexedend 16 of the trunk and toward the center thereof, so that the hook 22 w1ll engage an elastic connection 24. The elastic connection 24 has one end fixed to an eye 25 in the semi-spherical end 19 of the ,a'rm4, which eye extends inwardly through a hole 26 in the wall of the socket 17. The other end of the connection 24 is secured to an eye 27 extending inwardly from the semispherical end 20 of the arm 5 through a hole 28 in the wall of the socket 18. g V
In order that the figurette may assume a sitting posture, as-shown in dotted outline in Fig. 3, the convexed lower end 16 of the trunk is cut away to form an elongated slot 29 which "extends upwardly from the hole 23 to permit the movementofthe link 21 therein. Thus it will be seen that the elastic connection 24 will be stretched a suflicient distance so as to be engaged by the hook 22 and thereby maintain a tension which serves to hold in frictional contact the semi-spherical ends 19, 20 in their sockets 17, 18 as well as the convexed end 16 of the trunk in its concave recess 15. 7
By this construction and arrangement, the trunk maybe moved to various angular positions'on the support and be maintained in such positions by the frictional contact of the coacting parts.
It is obviousthat various changes may be resorted to in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention; and hence, I do'not intend to be limited to the details herein shown and de Ice scribed except as they may be included in the claim.
What I claim is:
In a figurette, a unitary support including feet, lower limbs, thighs and hips and provided with a concave recess extending over the upper surface thereof between the hips, a hollow trunk having its lower end convexed to oscillate in said concave recess, said convexed end of the trunk having an enlarged central opening and an elongated slot eX- tending laterally and upwardly therefrom into the body of the trunk, a rigid link having one end fixed in the bottom of the concave recess of the support and arranged to ex tend upwardly therefrom through said open- 'ing or slot into the'hollow trunk, said opening and elongated slot being disposed to accommodate the position of the link with respect to the support and trunk, and an elastic connection having its ends secured in the hollow trunk and disposed to engage the upper end of said link intermediate of said elastic connection for maintaining a uniform tension between the concave and convex surfaces of the support and trunk.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name this 20th day of January 1931.
NUNZIO PAGANELLO.
