Description

Oct- 25, 1932? C. NETT ET AL PURSE HOLDER FOR TABLS Filed NOV. l1, 1951 Suventors am PETE@ P5704 Y @mi Patented Oct.. 25, 1932 UNITED STA-TES PATENT OFFICE CLEMENS NETT, OF MALONE, AND PETER PAULY, MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN PURSE HOLDER FOR TABLES Application filed November 11, 1931. Serial No. 574,252.
The present invention relates to improvements in purse holders for tables and more particularly to a novel purse holder having a resilient table clamp therein for ready attachment to a restaurant table or the like.
An object of the invention is to provide a novel purse holder for tables, which may be quickly attached to or detached from any part of the edge of a table top by means of a retaining clamp therein.
Another object of the invention'is to provide a novel holder for tables, having a retaining clip for releaseably securing purses and like objects therein.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel holder for purses and similar articles for tables Vand the like, of inexpensive construction which will utilize a small amount of space of a dining table when in use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel holder wherein purses and similar articles may be securely retained within a clip, and wherein said clip is secured to the top of a table by means of a subjoined retaining clamp.
The foregoing and such other objects as will appear hereinafter as the description proceeds, will be more readily understood from a perusal of the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing. in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the improved purse holder embodying the features of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation partly in section of the purse holder.
Fig. 3 is an end view in elevation of the purse holder.
The improved purse holder illustrated in the accompanying drawing includes a suitable hooked clamp 11, preferably formed of a strip of resilient material 12, having one of its ends formed into a suitable hook 13. Such hook 13, is provided with a shank portion 14,
which is folded horizontally to securely retain the basal portion 15 of the clip leaves 16 and 17 by usual means, such as a rivet 18.
The purse holder includes further a retaining clip formed of the clip leaves 16 and 17, and a basal portion 15, preferably made of one rectangular piece of sheet metal provided with horizontal bends 19 and 20 to form such basal portion 15. From the drawing it will be noticed that the clip leaves 16 and 17 are conveyed inwardly centrally thereof and that this convergence is formed transversely of the said clip leaves. In other words the clip leaves are purposely so converged in this manner as to afford a greater ..00 facility for retention of objects placed therebetween. Such convergence is shown at 21 and 22 hereof.
In use the clamp 11, is attached to the edge of a table or counter by engaging therewith `.Oli the hook 13. When secured to a table or counter inthis manner, a womans purse and gloves or similar articles may very conveniently be placed between the clip leaves 16 and 17 for retention during the courseof a A meal. By reason of the fact that the obj ect is held vertically, the holder and its contents require only a small portion of the table top, andin consequence, a greater area of the table top may be employed for purposes other than a depository for such purse or other articles.
The structure recited in the foregoing provides a very practical device which may be manufactured inexpensively.
Although an exemplary form` of the imlS0 proved purse holder has been shown in the accompanying drawing and described in detail in the foregoing specification, it is to be understood that the construction may vary as to details without departing from'the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims:
' We claim:
1. An article of the class described, comprising a sheet metal hooked clamp, adapted to engage with its hooked portion an outer marginal edge of a table top, a strip shank portion of said hooked clamp, a backwardly directed fold of said shank strip, and vertically upstanding integrally formed clip leaves ixedly secured at the basal portion thereof within said fold of said shank strip.
2. An article of the class described, comprising a sheet metal hooked clamp, adapted to engage with its hooked portion an outer marginal edge of a table top, a strip shank portion of said hooked clamp, a baokwardly directed fold of said shank strip, vertically upstanding integrally formed clip leaves fixedly secured at the basal portion thereof Within said fold of said shank strip, and securing means extending through the folded portion of said shank strip adjacent its termination, the basal portion of said Clip leaves and the portion of said shank strip underlying said basal-portion of said clip leaves. Y
In testimony whereof We aiiX our signatures at Milwaukee, VVisConsin.
