'Referring now to the said rawings embodying the preferred 'form of theinvention the reference numeral 1 designates the smoliers novelty as a whole. The smokers novelty 1 comprises a base 2 supportin a detachable casing-3 which has a remova le cover 4 provided with a cigarette lighter 5.
The base 2 comprises a hollow body 6 with` `a closed bottom 7l and having an open top coveredb a removable cap 8. Cap 8 is formed with a depending peripheral flange 9 which fits over and rictionally engages the exterior upper portion of' the body 6, thereby retaining the cap upon this body. An apron 11 is formed exteriorly of theA body Gand extends downwardly to provide a supporting means for this body. t
The body 6 is adapted to receive and re- 70 tain a Hash li ht battery 12, one spring contact 13 of w ich engages the base of an electric light bulb 14l which is suitably threaded through an aperture provided in the forward end of body 6.v The other spring Contact of battery 12 is adapted to be engaged when desired by a suitable contact y member carried by-a lmurled slide button 15 mounted on the base 2 to thereby eect the 14 may be employed to provide a light when the smokers novelty is used in darkness, thereby enabling the user to see to remove and light cigarettes carried by the novelty.
The hollow body 6 is of suicient dimeni sions to provide a space above the battery 1 2 suitable for the reception of such articles as a note pad 19 and pencil 10. By merel removing cap 8, access is obtained to su ngers 16 and side spring fingers 17 are pressed outwardly of the cap 8 and extend upward substantially at right angles to the upper 'surface of this cap. Spring fingers 16 and 17 are'adapted to releasably retain thecasing 3' upon the base 2. Casing 3 lmay be readily detached from base 2 by pulling upwardly upon the i the frictinal grip 1 00 l of fingers 16 and- 17 cigarettes 18. This casing is shaped so vas to receive the contents of an entire pack of cigarettes at one time, if desired.A Casing 3 is closed at its bottomand has an open top which is normally closed by the removable slide cover 4. The upper edge of casing 3 is formed with a peripheral bead 23 extend- I ing around and projecting outwardly from the outer surface of this casing. The slide cover '4 is formed with depending guide flanges 24 at its sides which are adapted to engage over the bead 23, thereby retaining the slide cover 4 upon the casing 3. TheA forward end of the slide cover 4 is similarly -casin provided with a dependin stop flange 25 which limits the motion o the slide cover when thev latter is slid endwise onto the top of casing 3. To remove the slide cover 4 from the casing 3, it is merely necessary to slide the cover forwardly and endwise with respect to the casing or to the right as viewed in Fig. 2,\the guide flanges 24 sliding over the'bead 23. This movement of the slide cover 4 is permitted since-the rear end of this cover is not provided with a depending flange. v
A double bowed spring 20 is contained vwithin casing 3 and bears at one end against the'rear end wall 21 of this c'asingrand at its other end against a presser piece 22. Presser piece 22 is channel shaped and extends ver-v tically within the casing 3. 'Presser piece-22 is urged towards .the forward end of the casing 3 by the action of spring 20 and as this presser piece bears against the cigarettes 18, it tends to move these cigarettes toward the right as viewed in Fig. 2. A chain 26 is secured to the presser-piece 22 midway ofthe vheight thereof and extends rearwardly through a guide aperture 27 provided centrally of the double bowed spring 2O and through an aperture 28 provided in the rear end wall 21. By pulling outwardly upon vchain 26 the presser-piece 22 may be pulled toward the rear wall 21 to thereby enable the ready insertion of cigarettesinto the 3, the slide cover 4 having been previous y removed. y
In order to retain the presser piece adja- `cent the wall 21 and out of the way while the casing' 3 is being loaded with cigarettes,
a stop slide 30 having a V-slot 31 therein, is adaptedto engage the chain 26, thereby holdin the presser piece in its retracted position -adacent the wall 21. Stop slide 30 isslidably mounted within a guide member 33 which is attached, as byscrews,`to the exterior of rear wall 21. Stop slide 30 is pro'- vided with an operating knob 32. By pushing stop slide 30 upwardly by means of knob 32,V the V-slot 31 engages chain 26, thereby retaining the presser piece 22 in its retracted position adjacent the wall 21, thereby' en`- I abling the ready insertion of a pack of cig arettes into the open upper end of the casf ing 3. When'4 the cigarettes have been inserted into the casing, knob 32 is pushed downwardly so that chain 26 is released with` thereof, as by rivets. Bracket 29 has end.
The cigarette lighter 5, rovided on slide cover 4, comprises a snu er 46 whichhas an operating knob 57 and is pivoted on Va pin 47 carrying a tooth friction wheel 48. 'A flint stick 49 contained within a sleeve 50 is urged into engagement with the tooth friction wheel 48 by a compression spring 51. Compression spring 51 is retained in assembled relation within the sleeve 50 by a. cap 55 which is threaded upon a reduced extension 56 of the sleeve 50. Sleeve 50 is partly cut away at 52 providing an inlet opening for receiving Hint stickreflls. A flint stick cartridge 53 serves to replenish the flint sticks as they are used up in the lighter.
