The present invention refers to a machine for manufacturing of glued shoes the sole of which is integral with the leather flap covering the breast of the heel. Without the are usually necessary for cementingof the sole and of the covering flap. At-first the cement is applied to the forepart and to the instep of the sole. The part of the sole to be used as the covering flap is fastened by a peg to the heel seat of the shoe in order to keep the sole in position. Then a solvent is applied to the cement of the sole and the sole is pressed in a machine to the shoe. After i the cement has set the peg is pulled out of the rear part of the sole and the heel is fastened underneath this part to the shoe. Now cement is applied to the heel part of the sole which is cemented to the breast of the heel in a second press.
According to the invention a single cementing press is used which is adapted to exert a pressure on the sole and on the breast of the heel at the same time. With the new machine several manufacturing steps requir- .ing much time and experience are dispensed with. The presses for cementing the heel breast requiring much room in the shops are now superfluous. 1

But the invention may be applied to any otherkind of presses for instance to presses having pressing devices coupled to each other like a chain and moving in a horizontal direction. The carrier 4 of the pressing devices is fastened by means of the bolts 5 to the shaft 1 rotatable in the fixed journals 2 and 3. To the carrier 4 are fastened around in any suitable number the frames 6 accommodat- I ing the pressure devices. These frames carry the pressing cushions? having pipes 8 for supplying and exhausting the pressure medium controlled in any known manner. The pressure lever 9 is connected to the frame 6 in a manner shown in my Patent No. 1,709,- 293 or otherwise so as to keep the shoes in place while they are'pressed and to free them after the pressing is done.
The frames 6 have lugs 10 forming jour-' nals for the heel supports. On the lug 10 is at 11 rot'atably journaled the lever 12 the middle of which is bifurcated. The upper end of the lever carries the support 13 for the heel. In the. bifurcation of the lever 12 a ratchet member 15 is pivoted at 14. While the machine is at rest the nose 17 of the member 15 is held by a. spring 16against the shoulder of the support 13. In the lug 10 is arranged a vertical slide 19 carrying at its upper end a roller 20 and at it lower end a roller 21. To the journal 3 of the shaft 1 is fixed a cam-disc 22 into which the roller 21 of the slide 19' engages only while the shoe is ut under pressure and while it is again free The shoe to be pressed with the heel already pegged on is placed with its sole on the free surface of the pressing device of the machine. The holding lever 9 is lowered on the shoe and is locked to the frame 6 in any known manner.
When the motor drive of the machine is clutched in, the shaft 1 with the pressing devices begins to rotate and the path 23 of the cam 22 pushes the roller 21 and the slide 19 upwardly for a certain amount. The upper end of the slide 19 moves by nieans of its roller 20, the ratchet member 15, and the spring 16 the lever 12 and the support 13 against the heel of the shoe until the support snugly abuts against the heel. The slide 19 continues its-upward movement, but as the movement of the lever 12 is stopped by the support 13, the locking member 15 swin s about the pivot 14: against the shoe whi e compressing the spring 16 until the slide 19 reaches its uppermost position. The whole device is now locked in this position by the roller 20 engaging into the notch of the member 15 (Fig.2). By these means the heel is prevented from yielding rearwardly while the cushion 7 is put under pressure. By introducing pressure medium into the cushion 7 the leather sole is pressed on its whole extent onto the sole of the last and the breast of the heel. The slide 19 remains automatically locked and the pressure on the sole and the heel-breast remains efiective even after the roller 21 leaves the cam-groove 23. The yielding arrangement of the looking member 15 allows difierent heels to be Worked upon. At the end of rotation of the pressing wheel the shoe is to be removed from the machine. To this end the pressure is released from the sole in the known manner. Thereupon the roller 21 of the slide 19 enters the groove 24 to be pulled down into the position shown in Fig. 1a. This causes the looking member 15 to be removed by the spring 16 from the lever 12 into its original position. Thereupon the whole lever 12 together with the support 13, the locking member 15 and the spring 16 is moved away from the shoe to free the same (Fig. apron for the heel breast have been glued on in a single working step. A new shoe can now be placed upon the empty pressing device.
What I claim is:
1. In a machine for cementing leather soles to shoes, the combination with means for pressing the sole to the shoe and the heel-flap to the breast of the heel and a hold down for the shoe, of yieldingly moved means for holding the heel against the pressure exerted upon, the flap.
2. In a machine for cementing leather soles to shoes, a plurality of pressing devices arranged on a movable carrier, each device consisting of means for pressing the sole to the shoe and the heel-flap to the breast of the heel, means for holding the heel against the pressure exerted on the flap, and means for automatically disengaging the means for holding the heel at a certain point of the movement of the carrier.
3. In a machine for cementing leather soles to shoes, a plurality of pressing devices arranged on a movable carrier, each device The sole and thedevice consisting of means for pressing the sole to the shoe and the heel flap to the breast of the heel, means for holding the heel against the pressure exerted upon the flap, and automatic means for bringing the holding means into operating position, locking them in this position and unlocking them after the travel of the carrier is finished;
5. In a machine for cementing leatherconsisting of means for pressing the sole to the shoe and the heel flap to the breast of the heel, means for holding the heel against the pressure exerted upon the flap, and a fixed cam for controlling the said holding means.
