This invention relates to curtain rod threading devices which are used to facilltate the threading of a curtain rod through-the hem of a curtain or a hanging of any char acter. It has for its general object to provide a device which is simple, and which effectively guides a curtain rod through a hem in the most delicate fabric without in'-' jury thereto.

A further object of the invention is to provide a threading device which may be readily and firmly attached to and quickly detached from a hollow curtain rod of any character.

A further object of the invention is to provide a threading device which is very durable, and which may be economically manufactured in large quantities.

These and other objects and features will more fully appear from the following specification in connection with the accompanying drawing, and will be particularly pointed out in the claims.

Without the aid of a supplementary device in many cases it becomes a very difficult and destructive operation to thread a curtain rod through the hem of a curtain, drapery or hanging of any character,

curtain is starched or stiffened in any manner, or if the fabric is of a very open and delicate character, it becomes difficult to thread the rod through the hem, and almost impossible to prevent damage to the fabric.

The present invention aims to provide a device which will overcome these difliculties. In order to produce a device which functions efliciently, and may be manufactured at a and in all cases it; is a very tedious task. For instance, 1f the low cost, it is desirably made of a single piece of wire preferably round in cross section, and having a certain amount of elasticity such as spring wire. 'It may, however, be made of wire of any character or material, suitable for the purpose.

The device as herein shown is. composed of a generally U-shaped loop of wire 1 having a blunt pointed entering section 2 which diverges rearwardly until its. maximum width is equal to or greater than the greatestlateral dimension'of the largest curtain rod with which it is to be used. The diverging portions of the entering section 2 may be slightly curved or may be straight. From the point 3 of maximum width the wire is bent inwardly to form a shoulder 4. The free end portions 5 of the loop extend rearwardly fromthe shoulders 4 to form anexpanding tongue which when inserted in the detached from the curtain rod theends 5 of the device are spaced apart a slightly greater distance than when in position in the'end of the rod. In order to insert the device, therefore, theends '5' are forced together until they will enter the end of the rod at which time the ends 5'are released frictionally to engage the inner walls of the curtain rod. The shoulders 4 limit the extent to which the device may enter the rod.

The ends 5 constituting the tongue, may desirably be slightly divergent toward their ends when detached from the rod. This construction enables the device to be fitted to rods varying widely in size, and also insures that the end portions when in their contracted position within the rod willlie more nearly parallel to the inner walls thereof. The device preferably is substantially fiat. A variation of such construction is however, withinthe scope of the invention as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. The ends 6 and 7 of the tongue portion may be bent slightly outof By means of this construction a more secure attachment with theround type of curtain rod is maintained whereas the flat construction shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 is better adapted to the fiat type of curtain rod 8.

The assembled rod and threading device is inserted in the hem 9 of the curtain 10. As the rod is fed through the hem, it is smoothly guided while the relatively sharp end and corners of the rod are maintained out of engagement with the fabric thus preventing any damage thereto, and greatly facilitating the operation of threading the rod through the curtain hem.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:

1. A curtain rod threading device comprising a one piece wire loop having its closed end pointed to readily enter the hem of a curtain and diverging rearwardly to a point Where its width is equal to or exceeds the greatest lateral dimension of the curtain rod, and is bent inwardly at this point to form a stop shoulder, the two freevends of the loop extending rearwardly from said shoulder to form an expanding tongue to be received by the curtain rod substantially as described.

2. A curtain rod threading device adapted to be inserted in the end of a hollow curtain rod to guide the end thereof through the hem of a curtain or other hanging comprising a flat loop of wire bent at its entering end to a curvature of small radius to form a blunt point which diverges rearwardly to a point where its width is equal to or exceeds the greatest lateral dimension of the curtain rod from which point it is bent inwardly to form a stop shoulder, the free ends of the loop extending rearwardly fromvsaid shoulder to form a laterally yielding tongue to be inserted within the rod substantially as described.

3. A one piece curtain rod threading device to be inserted in the end of a hollow curtain rod to guide the end thereof through the hem of a curtain or other hanging comprising a generally U-shaped flat loop of wire, the closed end thereof constituting an entering portion having a blunt point which diverges rearwardly until its width equals or exceeds the greatest lateral dimension of the curtain rod, and which is bent inwardly at this point to form a stop shoulder, the

free ends of the loop extending rearwardly from said shoulder to form an expanding tongue to be received by the end of the curtain rod.

4. A curtain rod threading device adapted to be inserted in the end of a hollow curtain rod comprising a one piece fiat wire loop, the closed end thereof being formed into a blunt pointed entering end which diverges rearwardly to a point at which the width thereof is equal to or exceeds the greatest lateral dimension of the curtain rod, and is bent inwardly at this point to form a stop shoulder, the free ends of the loop extending rearwardly from this point to form an ex- I panding tongue, the extreme ends of which are bent slightly out of the plane of the major portion of the loop thereby to be readily received and be firmly engaged by either a signed my
