The base or frame'of the machine may bel said to comprise a base plate or casting 1, a
form. These parts are secured together in any approved manner as by electric welding, riveting or otherwise. y The snubber 27 will prevent the head from swinging back too rapidlv and thus placing strain upon the `parts. Furthermore, the spring action of the snubber will, to a degree, assist in drawing the head supporting frame forwardly.
It will be noted that when the head is in its rear position the springs are not under tension, hence but little eort is needed to move the head forwardly to the dotted line position. The linkage, moreover, is such that an extremely heavy pressure-may be applied to the head through the frame andthe press is thus effective for both light and heavy work. kThe degree of pressure may, of course, loev varied by changing the effective length of the link 35.
kBy having the frame-work of the machine constructed of sheet steel it is at once light and rigid.y So too by making the head carrying frame 8 of the same material the frame is light and yet will effect all the pressure that is needed to make the press highly efficient.
The head carrying frame will allow ,the head to tilt where, for instance, a heavy piece of goods is under one end and a light piece under the other and yet said head will always come back to its true alignment when the pressure isl removed. In other words, the

frame are spaced a considerable distance apart and there is little or no tendency for the frame to weave or twist. Again there is no localized bearing between the main frame and the head frame, a feature of manifest advantage particularly over those constructions which employ an arm or lever pivotally supported on or by a shaft. , 11. A garment press as set forth in claim 10 provided with spring means acting upon the lower end of the head supporting frame to urge the same upwardly.
12. In a garmentpress the combination of a fixed frame comprising two vertically disposed side membersstanding in spaced relation a buck supported thereby; a head adapted to cooperate with the buck; Va head carrying ramehaving a downwardly extending portion and a `orwardly extend portion to which latter the head is secured; a pair of cam follower elements extending outward from eachside of said downwardly extending portion; a vpair of vertically spaced cams in each of said side members arranged to confine said rollers to definite paths of motion the two cams in each side member having parallel portions and divergent portions whereby the head is constrained to right'line motion when adjacent the buck and to compound swinging motion toward and from a position over the buck; and means for actuating said head carrying Y frame comprising va toggle directly connected to the head carrying frame and to a fixed portion of the press to move said head carrying frame and to develop a rapidly increasing leverage by movement of the toggle toward straightened position as the head approaches pressing relation with the buck.
