then together with the latter they are folded This invention relates to neckwear and has reference particularly to improvements in four-in-hand ties.

The principal object of our invention is to provide a necktie of this character which is constructed of a single piece of material cut on the bias and folded upon itself to support the material without a separate lining.

Another object of the invention is to fold J the material in the making of the tie to bring its folds along one edge thereof at the neckband and to form a seam along the adjacent folds which is secured by a row of stitching.

Figure 3 is a plan view of the blank or pattern of material from which the present necktie is folded.

Referring to the drawing, and particularly to Figure 3, denotes a blank or pattern of the material of which the tie is to be made,

the blank comprising a single bias piece of fabric, preferably silk, which tapers very slightly from one end towards the other, and which is finished off by means of angular end portions suitably hemmed along their edges.

The pattern 10 is folded longitudinally thereof along two folds 11, each thereof being spaced equally from the center line to form the face portion or front 12 of the tie. The front portion is narrowest at its mid section to form the width of the neck band and as it approaches its opposite ends it widens into the usual shapes. Spaced from the first folds 11 are two more folds 13, each thereof providing a portion 14 of material, which lies along one side or edge of the front portion 12, and which is capable of being folded inwardly to overlie the inner face of she front portion. Beyond the portions 14 and folds 13, the remaining widths of material form longitudinally projecting laps 15 which are folded inwardly on the lines J13 )nto the inner faces of the portions 14, and

inwardly again along the lines 11 to bring four layers of material in superimposed positions, one upon the other, over and upon the inner face of the front portion 12. According to this arrangement, the folds l1 and 13, particularly in the neck band, meet along one edge thereof to form a seam, which is secured by means of a row of stitches 16 preferably effected by hand in the form of an overcast stitch. ne end of the thread forming the stitches 16 projects beyond the seam and is free to take up any tensile stress exerted on the material of the tie.

It will be clear that in accordance with this invention a necktie is constructed, which is of itself suitably reenforced at its mid section and adjacentportions by the number of superimposed layers of the same material resulting from the novel arrangement of the folds, and which accordingly requires none of the lining materials usually incorporated in neckwear of this character.

aving described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A necktie comprising a single piece of bias cut material having a central face or body portion defined by spaced longitudinal lines of fold, integral portions of material extending from each side of said face portion, said latter portions each folded upon itself, into superposed layers of material and then superposed upon the body portion, the material having a free edge at one of said folds extending completely across the width of the necktie at the neckband portion thereof, and partially across the width of the necktie at the ends thereof, whereby the seam is formed at an edge of the necktie only along the neckband portion thereof.

2. A neckband comprising a single piece of bias out material having a central face portion defined by spaced longitudinal lines of fold, integral portions of material extending from each side of said face portion, said latter portions each folding into superposed layers of material and then superthe material having a free folding edge at the outermost fold extending completely across the width of the necktie at the neckband portion thereof and partially across the width of the necktie at the end portions thereof, whereby the seam will lie along an edge of the necktie at the neckband portion and along the central portion of the necktie at the ends thereof. 3. A necktie comprising a single piece of bias cut material having a central face portion and portions of material adjacent said face portion, said adjacent portions each inwardly folded upon itself to form folded superposed layers, said folded superposed layers being superposed upon the face portion of said necktie, the material having a free edge at the outermost layer extending completely across the width of the necktie at the neckband portion thereof and partially across the width of the necktie at the ends thereof, whereby the seam is formed at an edge of the necktie only along the neckband portion thereof.

A necktie made from a blank having a plurality of longitudinally disposed lines of fold, two of said lines defining a front or face portion of said necktie, adjacent portions extending from said front or face por; tion at each side thereof, each adjacent portion forming layers by being folded upon itself along a line running substantially centrally thereof in a longitudinal direction, said folded layers being superposed alternately upon the face portion of the necktie along said front or face defining lines of fold, the material having a free folded edge at the outermost of said layers extending completely across the width of the necktie at the neckband portion thereof and partially across the width of the necktie at the ends thereof, wherebytheseamis formed at an edge of the necktie only along the neckband portion thereof.

A necktie comprising a sin le piece of bias cut material folded longitudinally along spaced lines of fold to bring the material into superposed layers between the innermost lines in the front or face defining portion of the necktie, the material beyond the outermost lines at the neckband portion being folded inwardly upon the material disposed between the inner and outer lines to form two folded layers on opposite sides of the body portion, the two folded layers on one side of the body portion being superposed upon the inside of he body portion and the two folded layers on the other side being' superimposed upon the first two layers, the material having a folded free edge at the outermost layer extending completely across bias cut material having a plurality of longitudinall disposed lines of fold, two of said lines de ning a front or face portion of said necktie, stretches of material extending from said front or face portion on each side thereof, each stretch of material forming layers by being folded upon itself, the free unfolded edges thereof terminating at the front or face defining lines of fold, said folded layers being superposed upon the face portion of the necktie along said front or face defining lines of fold, forming four full layers upon said front or face portion, each extending substantially the full width of said front portion along the neckband, the material havin a free folded edge at the outermost of said layers extending completely across the width of the necktie at the neckband portion thereof and partially across the width of the necktie at the ends there- 6. A necktie formed of a single piece of of, whereby the seam is formed at an edge of the necktie only along the neckband portion thereof.
