Description
PROPAGANDA DISTRIBUTOR Filed March 25, 1930 Nye/V704? desss' E. E's/van 06H Patented Sept. 27, 1932 PATENT OFFICE JESSE E. ESHBAUGH; OF FLINT, MICHIGAN rnoraonnna nisrnmnron Application. filed March '25, 1930. Serial m.43s,ss1.
This invention relates to aeronautics, but.
With this and other objects in view, the
invention consists of the novel means for controlling the rate of propaganda discharge. The invention further consists of certain other novel details of construction and combinations of parts, all'of which will be first fully described and afterwards specifically pointed out in the appended claims:
Referring to the accompanying drawing: The figure is a diagrammatic view illustrating the invention.
' Referring to the drawing by reference numerals:
1 indicates a propaganda rack having depending partitions 2 complementally aper- ..tured at 3 to slidably receive the rod 4. 5
indicates the propaganda sheets perforated for threading on the rod 4.
6 indicates an electric motor driving a shaft or drum 7 to which latter a flexible line v8 leads from the slidable rod 4.
80' 9 indicates an electric battery carrying a slide 10 in an electric circuit 10, the said battery 9 and slide 10 being suspended and balanced vertically on a spring 11, also in the circuit, so that when no accelerating forces are acting, the slide 10 will just rest upon the stop 12. v
Arranged also in the circuit 10 is a resistance 13, disposed vertically and in electrical contact with the slide 10; the parts being arranged substantially as shown in the diagrammatic illustration.
Having thus described the invention, its operation is as follows:
The balloon carrying the device is loaded with suflicient propaganda 5, so that it will just climb to the desired altitude when full. If a timing device is not used, the motor is started before the apparatus leaves the ground. The position of the stop 12 determines the maximum resistance in the motor circuit, so that the propaganda is. discharged at a predetermined rate, which discharge is effected by the winding upqof the flexible line 8 on the motor driven shaft or drum 7 tomovethe rod 4 out of the propaganda sheets 5, and allowing said sheets to be successively dropped. This normal and predetermined rate of discharge continues as long as the balloon maintains "a constant or uniform altitude; As soon however as the balo0 loon starts to, descend, the accelerating force acting on the suspended battery 9, reduces the pull on the'spring' 11, and permits the same.
.to shorten. This raises the slide along the resistance 13 and reduces the resistance in 66 the circuit, which increases the'speed of the motor 6, and proportionately increases the speed of the propaganda discharge,to stop the downward accelerationof the balloon. When this has been accomplished, the spring 70 11 again assumed its normal position, and the slide 10 drops down along the resistance 13 to the stop12, and, the normal rate of propaganda discharge is again continued.
Having thus described the'invention, I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact construction herein set forth. but I consider myself clearly entitled to all such changes and modifications that fall 7 within the limit and scope of the appended claims. f
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
