DIVISION FOR BOWLING ALLEYS AND GUARD THEREFOR Filed Deb. 26, 1931 Patented Sept. 27, 1932 DIVISION FOR BOWLING ALLnYs invn GUARD 'rnnnnron Application filed December 26,1931. Serial No. 583,282.
This invention relates to an improved division and guard for a bowling alley.
Bowling alleys as ordinarily constructed consist of a plurality of alleys, each alley having gutters on its opposite sides to receive the;
balls that leave the alley, and between the alleys a division is provided consisting ofa plank extending upwardly above the upper surface of the alley or gutter for several inches. These divisions are made of planks and aresubject to injury, splintering, and
the like, from impact thereaga-inst of the balls which are being bowled, necessitating the replacement of the divisions by new planks. V I
It is'the object of this invention to protect and render more serviceable these divisions, both along the opposite faces thereof and also the front ends.
The invention consists in a division for bowling alleys and a division guard, as hereinafter set forth in the specification and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawing Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the front end portion of my division with the guard positioned at the front end of said division, the boards of the alley and approach being shown in section.
Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional elevation of the front portion ofthe division and its end guard. v
Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on line 34), Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the division guard.
Like numerals refer to like parts in the several views of the drawing.
In the drawing, 5 is a division for bowling alleys comprising a plank 6 and a metal casing 7 consisting of a top 8 extending across the upper edge of the plank 6, and sides 9 which extend along the side faces of the plank 6, the lower edge portions of said sides 9 projecting below the upper surface of the floors 10 of the adjacent alleys.
11 is a division guard for the end of the division and comprises a metallic cap provided with a chamber 12 adapted to receive one end of the division 5. The guard 11 ema flange 21 which 7 the casing 7,
a top 13 and side 'plates-lt, the 01513 being inclined downwardly and forwardly at 15'andterm1nat1n'g atuits lowerend in an angular flangeportion 16, consisting of a vertical flange 17 andahorizontal flange 18.
The flange 18 projects beneath the boards 19 of the approach to the alley and=the said boards abut againstjthe flange 17. f o =Apin 20 preferablygintegral with the guard 11- projects -from the inclined portion 15, within the chamber'lfl into they end of the division 5, thus the guard is firmlyheld in position by the pin 20 and thefiange 16 with outits being necessary to fasten the same to the floor of the alley byvscrews. The extreme upper portion of the guard 11 terminates in projects over the top 8 of the sides 1 of a bowling alley, anda horizontal flangeextending across the front end of the guard and adapted to project beneath the floor boards ofthe alley approach.
2. A division guard for bowling alleys comprising a metallic cap provided with a chamber adapted to receive one end of the division of a bowling alley and embodying a top and side plates, and a horizontal projection on the inside of said top adapted to project into said division end.
3. A division guard for bowling alleys comprising a metallic cap provided with a chamber adapted to receive one end of the division of a bowling alley and embodying a top and side plates, a horizontal projection inside of said top adapted'to project into said division I whilethe rear edge portions of of the guard project overthe.

end, and a horizontal flange extending across the front end of said guard and adapted to project beneath the floor boards of the alley approach;
A divisiongnard for bowling alleys comprising a metallic cap provided with a cham. ber adapted to receive one end of thedivision of a bowling alley-and embodying atop-and side plates, said top plate beinginclined...

A division for bowling alleys oomp ris-ring a plank extendinglongitudinally of said alleys a metal casing extending across the upper edge of said plank and along theside faces thereof, and ametalliognard proni-ded with a chamber adapted to receive one end: of 7 said division and 1 clamp the metal casing thereof to the plank. 1
- 6.-A division for bowling alleys comprisin g a plank-extending longitudinally r of said alleys,= a {metal casing extending across the npperedge of said plank and along the side facesthereof, ametalliognard provided with achamher adapted to receive one end: 'oi'saiddivision and clamp the metal easingthereof to the plank, and a horizontal flange extend; 1
