REGULATING mncmmsm Application filed Angust 25, 1930, Serial No. 477,733,31111 in Germany June 11, 1930.
This invention relates to an improved construction of a device for producing knitted goods provided with" reinforcements, for example stockings with high spliced heels and the-like in which theneedle bar is brought within the range of the high spliced heel closer to the sinker head in order to produce longer loops at the points at which a reinforcement is required.
The essential-characteristic feature of the invention consists in the employment of a single control element which approaches and moves apart, as required, two pressing wings according to the width'of the reinforcement guide-screws 13 are arranged, along which the feet 15 of the pressing-or reinforcing wings 2 and 3 are slidablyarranged, which have corresponding arc-shaped slots '14. A shiftable collar 5 is further arranged on the cam shaft 1 and carries portions 6, 7 of a cylinder. In these cylinder portions oblique guides in the'form of screw thread-like recesses 8 are arranged in which the thin webs 9 and .of the wings 2 and 3 are guided.
The collar 5 being shiftable on the cam shaft 4. is secured by a key 11 or the like against rotation on said shaft.
At any lateral shifting of the collar 5, controlled from the machine, the wings 2 and 3 on the stationary collar are moved according to the recesses 8 in the cylinder portions 6 and 7 from or towards each other. As the collar 5 is locked against rotation, the wings 2 and 3 held in both directions by the recesses 8 are also secured against rotation so that said wings cannot slide away at the ascending 2 and 3 are slidable by means of their curved 5 slots. They are approached or moved apart according to the width of the reinforcement which it is desired to obtain. This is effected with the aid of a control shaft 16 .and an arm 16 keyed thereon, the forked end of to I which engages in an annular groove of the flange 5 on the circumference of which the two parts 6 and 7 of a cylindrical casing are screwed. Each part has a spiral slot 8 in which the webs 9 and 10 carrying the wings 2 and 3 are guided. The part 11 allows an axial displacement of the flange 5, but prevents its rotation on the cam shaft 4. During the axial displacement of the flanges 5 the slots 8 exert a corresponding pressure on the webs 9 and 10 and thus cause the two pressure wings 2 I, and 3 to move closer together or further apart.
During each rotation of the cam shaft 4 the pressure wings 2 and 3 encounter the roller 12 rigidly mounted on an arm 12'. The arm 12 is at the same time keyed on the regulating shaft 17 with the arm 17. The arm 17 lbears against the pressure lever 18 which runs on a cam 32, an oscillating of the needle bar in vertical direction is effected whilst it is only approached towards or moved away from the presser bar 35 by the arm 23.
The operation is as follows In the case of high spliced heels or other reinforcements longer loops must be formed within these reinforcements. For this purpose the needles 33 must still engage through the sinkers 34. This is attained each time under the action of a pressure wing 2 or 3 on the roller 12. Thereby the arm 18 is pl essed further back than is effected by the cam '21, the
arms 22 and 23 participating in this supplementary movement and oscillate the needle bar 24 around the pins 25 and 26 so that the needles 33- extend further or lower through the sinkers 34. The mutual position of the 1 pressing wings 2 and 3 is actually determined by the width of the reinforcement desired in the article and, as above mentioned is regulated by the control shaft 14.
I claim r i Q 1. Inan apparatus for making reinforced knitted goods the combination of needles, operating means for said needles, a pair of pressure wings adapted to control the extent of movement of said needle operating means in one direction for the purpose of'stitch length determination, guiding means for automatically adjusting said pressure wings and for positively guiding same in both dire'ctions, and actuating means for axially shifting said guiding means.
2. In an apparatus for making reinforced knitted goods the combination of knitting needles, operating mechanism for said needles, having a cam shaft, means for controlling the loop length measured by said needles comprising a stationary collar fi;edly
connected to the eccentric shaft ,of said operating mechanism, a pair of pressure wings adjustably arranged on the inner side of said stationary c'ollar, a loose collar axially guided on the cam shaft of said operating mechanism, a pair of cylindrical portions mounted on said loose collar having oblique guide slots adapted to positively guide said pressure wings in both directions, and means for axially shifting said loose collar to adjust said pressurewings towards and away from'each' other. f v r In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
A KARL RICHARD HEBERKNECHT.
