Description

Sept. 20, 1932. J. A. ANDREWS SPINNING MACHINE Filed March 4. 1951 Patented Sept. 20, 1932 UNITED STATES JAMES A. ANDREWS, OF AUGUSTA, MAINE SPINNING MACHINE Application filed March 4,
This invention relates to spinning machines and more specifically to means for supporting the fibre during attenuation.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a bridge structure to fill the gap between the consecutive sets of rolls in a spinning machine so that the fibre passing therethrough will be supported and at the same time to hold the bridge in position, by means which also provide guides or hearing members for the shafts of the consecutive rolls, and thereby function in a dual manner.
A further object of the invention is to provide a structure of this type which may 1 be easily dismounted in case a substitute apparatus is to be employed.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device which is cheap in construction, and efficient and economical in operation, and one wherein the parts may be stamped out of sheet metal.
Further objects and advantages will become apparent as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bridge bar;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the bridge clip;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary perspective view showing a spinning frame with the present invention applied thereto, the commonly employed top set of rolls being omitted.
In proceeding with the present invention the device is shown mounted on an ordinary spinning machine comprising a frame A on WlllCh are drawing-1n rolls 1, intermediate rolls 2 and drawing rolls 3 all of which operate in the usual manner. A plate 4 is pro- 1931. Serial No. 519,977.
shaped fingers 6 at its ends. The wings 5 have approximately the same curvature as the shafts of the drawing-in and intermediate rolls so that they will act as top bearings for the shafts.
The center portion or body of the plate 4 i projecting in the cut-out 11 resulting from the striking-out of the finger 6, while the latter overlies the lip 10 thereby holding the bridge members in position. The bridge members extend in the space between the rolls 1 and 2 and are disposed horizontally therebetween so that the fibre passing through the machine will be supported by the bridge members.
It will therefore be seen that the members 4 function in a dual capacity, namely to secure the bridge members in position and at the same time to provide top bearings for the rolls. It will of course be understood that a corresponding member 4 is provided at the other end of the frame for the corresponding end of the bridge member.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device for spinning machine rolls composed of a bridge member formed to be disposed horizontally in the space between adjacent rolls and having a lip at one end, a plate having a central portion, means to attach said portion to the frame of a spinning machine, said plate having struck out inverted L-shaped fingers to engage the lips to hold same against the frame and with the lips disposed in the cut-outs resulting from the striking out of the fingers, and curved wings formed on the plate to engage and provide top bearings for the shafts of the rolls.
2. A device for spinning machine rolls composed of a bridge member formed to be disposed horizontally in the space between adjacent rolls and having a lip at one end, a plate having a central portion, means to attach said portion to the frame of a spinning machine, a finger carried by the plate to engage the lip of the bridge member and to hold the same in position and curved Wings carried by the plate to en age the shafts of the rolls and provide top earings therefor.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name of this specification.
JAMES A. ANDREWS.
