This invention relates to shoes and has special reference to means for holding the shoe properly fitted on the foot and to prevent the shoe from slipping at the heel.
My invention comprises elasticy bodiessecured between the counter and the lining near the rearportion of the shoe upper and forining fillers to fit more closely against the. sides of the foot of the wearer near thek heel so as if, to prevent the shoe from slipping.
An object of the invention is to provide the above described construction in a shoe to prevent the shoe from slipping andto obtain other advantageous results ,including those herein described and otherwise made apparent, reference being Vmade to the drawingin which Fig. 1 is a perspectivek view of a shoeembodying the. present invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the rear portion of the shoe Showing the elastic bodies in position between the lining and the counter.
Figs. 3 and 4 are views showing the. inner side and an edge view, respectively, of one of the elastic bodies.
The Shoe in which the present invention is shown is of the low type7 the heel portion comprising an upper 1, a counter stiffener 2 of comparatively stiff material contacting 3o with the inner side ofthe heel portion of the upper, and a lining 3 secured to the inner surface of the counter. Heretofore, efforts have been made to prevent the heel portion of the shoe from slipping relative to the foot Such efforts have included the provision of friotional devices or roughened surfaces on the inner side, of vthe lining, and other expedients. Mypresent in- Vvention constitutes a departure from previ- 40 ous devices of this kind by providingelastic bodies between the counter and the shoe lining and having convexed inner'surfaces to fit within the cavities at the sides of the heel of the foot of the wearer. Thusl at each side of the heel portionof the Vshoe is an elastic f elasticity. -The`lining need not be secured to 'the inner surface of the bodies 4.
tions 5 Varranged inl such relationship` thatl MISSOURI, ASSIGNORTO INTERNATIONAL they extendA into the cavities at the sides of the tendons below and rearwardlyof the` an-v y kle joint and above the sole of thev heel of lthe foot fof the wearer. '.The distance transversely between thefsurfaces of the extensions 5,therefore, is considerably less than the distance transversely-between Vthe surf Y faces yof the liningbelowsa'id extensions so that the broad portion of the heel of the foot of the wearer comes below the extensions 5 Y while said extensions 5 t within the cavities above the broad heel portions of the foot.V y
Being of very soft'rubber or equivalent ma-` terial, the bodies 4 will not cause any 'dis-'l comfort but will hold the shoel more perfectly fitted on the foot and will prevent the heel portion of the shoe from slipping from the foot of the weareror the foot ofthe wearer from slipping from the shoe. As shown in Fig'. 1 these extensions 5 do not yextend around the rear portion of the shoe but are widely Separated so as to fit only within the cavities at the sides of the heel.
Preferably the bodies 4.are glued or cemented or otherwise secured to the counter Y without the use of any metallicfastening devices, as it is desirable to maintainy complete ,A f
`The construction and arrangement may be varied within'equivalent-limits without departure from the nature and principleof the invention.
, vlNhat I claim and desire tosecure by Letters Patent is 1. Ina shoe, a shoe upper, a counterstiffenerfsecured against the inner Side of and shaping andV holding shaped the heel portion l vexed inner walls,isaid bodies'being secured 9 to said counter stiff'ener wholly below the upper edge offsaid counter stiffener and` above the sole of the shoe, land a lining se-y cured to the inside of the soleand fitting against and covering said convexed inner* covering said conveXed inner surfaces of said 7 bodies andv having its upperedge 'attached surfaces of said bodies and having `its upper edge attached to the `heel portion of the shoe above said bodies. ,l
2. In a shoe, .a shoe upper, a counterstiifener secured against the inner side of and shapingand holding shaped the heel portion of the upper, a pair of elastic and soft bodies Vhaving substantially flat outer walls securedA n Y to opposite sides of said counter sti'lener andv having substantially oval edges Vand* con-gy Y vexed inner walls,said'bodies being vsecuredy to said counter stiiener wholly below the up-` per edge of said counter stiffener .and above the sole of the shoe, and a liningsecured to" I the inside of the sole and tting against and shoe below and'above said bodies;
