The object of the present invention is to provide 'a combined brooch and clip of a novel and decorative form, the brooch compris'ingJ two separable members detachably mounted upon a pin bar, either` of which is adapted to be mounted upon a hinged clip bar for use as a clip.

The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which v Fig. l' is a plan view ofthe assembled brooch. .y

Each brooch 'element comprises a metal frame 1 decorated on its'fr'ont face, as by the insertion `of brilliants or other stones, by enameling, by filigree work, et

.Each brooch element is formed with an outer edge `lo and a straight wall inner edge 1mm.

Secured to the rear face of each element near the inner edge is a loop`j2 and between the loop and the outer edge of the element the latter carries a headed which, if desired, maybe reversed 'in positln and may be modified as to form.

When the device is used as a brooch, it is carried by a pin-holding frame, and when one of the ornamental elements is used as a clip, it is carried by a hinged Aframe which in its function -of holding the` member 1 is identical with the pin-holding frame.

The pin-holding frame is clearly illustrat-` j ed in Fig. 3. It consists of opposed springlike sections 4, 4m connectedby a section 10 having opposed rectangular projections, each projection being adapted to enter the loop 2 attached to one of the ornamental members 1'. The free end of each member 4, im is provided with opposed spring prongs 4mm which are sufiiciently spaced to receive the stem of a headed stud 3, the inner surface of each spring prong being curvedto conform with the rounded surface of the stem. Eachy set of Aprongs .4a/:m will be spaced slightly less than the diameter of the stud stem so as to i press upon the same when it is -in position.

Thus, the yspring prongs will ,act to hold member 1 by frictional engagementwith the stem of the stud and by abutment with the head of the stud.

l Member 4 of the pin-holding frame will l have pivotally attached thereto a pin 5 which pin is adapted to be held by a suitable catch member 6 carried by member 4:17, the construcno partofy tion of the catch member forming the present invention and being diagrammatica-ll shown rather than shown in detail.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

is as follows l 1. A combined brooch and clip comprisin an ornamental member and a headed stud an loop carried by the latter in spaced position in combination with a frame, `and means for securing the frame to a fabric, the frame having at one end 'spring prongs adapted to engage the headed stud and also having rearwardly of the spring prongs a projection adapted/to enter the loop.

2. An article of jewelry. comprising two ornamental members adapted to lie in edge 9 juxtaposition and in such position to form the ornamental elements of a brooch and a loop and a headed projection carried by each f of said ornamental members, in combination with a frame having at each end thereof spring prongs adapted to engage lthe headed projection and having rearwardly of each end a projecting member adapted to enter the loop of an ornamental member, said frame .having means for attaching the same to a fabric. y Y
