WINDOW SHADE ADJUSTING DEVICE Filed April 1, 1929 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 6, 1932 SAMUELJASGUR, or BROOKLYN, mw (YORK WINDOW SHADE ADJUSTING DEVICE Application filed April 1,
My invention relates to adjustable window shades and refers particularly to devices having two vertical channel shaped members andadapted for the raising and lowering of win dow shades or curtains. I
The rollers carrying window shades, or curtains, are usually attached to opposite sides of a window frame and hence are not capable of being raised or lowered.
This fixed position of the curtain roller is objectionable as the unrolled curtain prevents the'free access of air when the upper window sash is lowered, and as it is frequently desirable to obtain free access of air through the upper open portion of the window, while using the'curtain as a screen only for the unopen portion, it is evident that a device which will accomplish this'result 1s of great value and convenience. V
The device of my invention produces this desirable result in an effective manner as will be evident upon a consideration of my specification and its accompanying drawings.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating one form of the device of my invention, similar parts are designated by similar numerals.
Figure 1 is a front view of one form of my device attachedto a window frame.
Figure 2 is an enlarged section through the line 2-2 of Figure 1. Figure 3 is an enlarged section through the line 83 of Figure 2.

In the accompanyingdrawings illustrating one form of the device of my invention in operative positioml show. a window frame bio of placementbetween the through the perspective view of one cur} The ends of the rods34 34within thechan nel-shaped memberslti and 29 carry the v sprocket-wheels 37,38. i 1 Figure 8 is an enlarged sectionthrough the I 1929. having the bottom 10, the sides 11 and 12, r
the top 13 and carryingtheupper and the lower sash 15.
Attached to the inner face of the frame side 11 is a channel-shaped member 16 having a longitudinal slot 17- therein formed. by a cut-out and inwardly bent portion 18. The said channel-shaped member 16 is attached to the frame side 11 by means of ascrew passing through a hole in its foot 19- and is attached to the frame top 13by means' of a screw passing through its angularly positioned head 20. 5 a
A bushing 21 is inserted through an open-i ing in the lower'portion of the member 16, within which is a revoluble shaft 22 carry ing a-toothed wheel'23 within the member 16 and a knurled wheel 24.
sash 14 Vertically slidable'within the slot 25 of V the member 16 is a rod 26, having a knurled knob 27 exterior ofthe device, and a downwardly projecting-pointed member 28 capa teeth :of' the sprockets of the wheel 23. p v 5 'Attachedto the inner face of the frame side 12 is a channel-shaped member 29 having a vertical slot, similar to the channelshaped member 16 and its slot, -Within'thelower portion of the member 29-is a spr0ck-j80 et wheel 30 revoluble upon the studshaft 31 and spaced from the face of-the member 29 by the spacer 32. A lock nut 33, retains these elementsin position. 1 The two upper'portions of-the chann eL shaped members'16 and 29 are connected by two revoluble rods 34' and 3 4 slidable with V in thesleeve 3'5 and: maintained in desired position therein by the set-screws 36, 36'.
Within the channel shaped member 29 is a curtain support 46 to which the chain 40 is attached, the upper portion 47 of the support being bent and extending outwardly through the longitudinal slot of member 29. The member 46 has the two round openings 48 and 49 and the angular opening 50.
The end carriers of a spring-operated curtain 51 are placed in the openings 43 and48 ,ed doubleprong member 55, each pair of opposite prongs, being capable of supporting a drapery support 56.-
The operation of my device is'as follows, assuming that the device is inits utmost up ward position and it is desired to lower the upper sash 14 and'to lower the device accordingly The knob 27 is raised thus allowing the revolution of the sprocket 23. The knob 24 is then revolved, which revolves the sprock-. et 23, movingthe chain 39, revolving the sprocket 37, the rods 34 and 35 and the sprocket 38, moving the chain and revolving the sprocket 30. It will thus be seen that the two chains 39 and 40 move in unison, carrying the curtain carriers 41 and 46 withftheir attached curtains. The revolution 'of the knob 24, therefore, moves the curtains up or down to the desired position and the lowering of the knob 27 retains themin the desired position. If iteis desired that draperies be; moved at the same time, the
members 53, 53 are employed as above described. The extended members 42 and 47 prevent the accidental spring unrolling of the shades,'as the wooden cross-piece of the extremity of the shade can notlpass between the rolled shade and the members 42 and 47.
The modified form of. curtain carrier shown in Figure 10' comprises a channelshaped member having an acute-angled member 61 which isvertically slidable over the inwardly extended member 18 of the channel guide 16, the memberl18 thus acting as a guide for the vertical movement of the curtain carrier. I
jIt willthus be seenthat my device presents aneasily operative means for raising or lowering a shade, or curtain, roller, to a de'-' sired position within a window frame.
I do not limit myself to the particular size,
shape, number, arrangement or material of parts as shown and described as these are given simply'as a means for clearly describing the device of my invention. 7

In a device of the character described, in combination, two vertical channel-shaped members the base of each having a longitudinal slot therein for attachment to inner opposing sides of a window-frame, the base of each channel-shaped member being spaced from said window-frame and the two arms of said channel-shaped member being directed inwardly toward said window-frame, a revoluble sprocket in each channel-shaped member, means exterior of said channel shaped member adapted to revolve one of said sprockets, a revoluble shaft connecting the two said channel-shaped members, a sprocket attached to each end. of said shaft and within one of said run-ways, chain belts within said run-ways and connectingv the shaft sprockets with the other two said sprockets, a curtain-carrier fixedly attached to opposite points of the two said belts and means for maintaining said'carrier at any desired vertical position,
