PATENT QFFIGE.
AUSTIN S. PARKS AND LEWIS E. BATHRIOK, OF WINGHENDON', MASS.
IMPROVEMENT IN BURNERS FOR LANTERN S.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,480, dated February 20, 1877 application filed January 3, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that We, AUSTIN S. PARKS an'd LEWIS E. BATHRIOK, bothof Winchendon, county of, Worcester, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Burners for Lanterns, which improvement is fully set forth in the follow ing specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Heretofore great inconvenience has been caused by the Want of something to adjust the wicks in oil-lantern tubes to remove the burnt incrustation from the wieks and to hold the wicks in place after they are adjusted-accidents having been caused, particularly on railroads, by the wicks being jarred or shaken down into the tubes and the light going out. To obviate their falling down it has often been necessary to put the Wicks into the tubes so tightly that the oil could not pass up andreadily supply the flame.
The object of our invention is to always have at hand a convenient and useful arrangement for adjusting the wicks, holding them .in place after being'adjusted, for removing the burnt incrustat-ion from the same, and allowing the wicks to be put in so loosely that the oil will pass up readily, and amply supply the flame, causing less incrustation and producing a better light.
Figure l of the drawings represents the burner and tubes A A, with our improved pin B inserted through their centers to hold the wicks in place, also represents the chain (J attached to the pin to prevent its being detached from 'theburner. Fig. 2 of the drawings represents a plan of the tubes A A, with our improved pin B passing through them, the dotted line 0 representing the chain attached to the pin B and the burner, and also representing the curve D in the pin B which, with the aid of the spring E, holds the pin securely in position in the tubes A A. Fig. 3 of the drawings represents the burner with the hole F in the tubes A A for the insertion of the pin B. I
We claim as our invention- A combination of the pin with the tubes of the burner'provided with holes F, for the pur poses herein set forth.
In testimony of which we have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of two witnesses.
AUSTIN S. PARKS. LEWIS E. BATHRIOK.
Witnesses FRANK B. SPALTER, D. MGGREGOR.
