I preferably form the'frame of my device of a base section 1 and a top section 2, the
base section having a peripheral flange 3 dis posed about its uppersection and thetop section 2 having a flange 4 disposed about its base. The flanges 3 and A are in registerable alignment with each other through which fastening holes pass and through which any suitable means are provided for securing the frame sections together. A recess 5 is disposed within .the upper surface of the base section and a ring 6 is formed upon the lower, "surface of the top section, the same being adapted to engage each other to strengthen the assembly. A spider 7 extends across the mouth of the crusher and is secured to the upper end of the crusher frame byany suitable fastening means as by bolts 8. A journal bearing 9 is placed within the base section of the frame with a suitable bearing hub 10 formed within the base portion of the frame. Cross spokes 11 connect the hub 10 with the side wall 12 of the base of the frame and are the same being an inverted frustacone. A"
compressible element, as a coil spring 16, rests upon the upper surface of the spider upon its 3 one end and engages the undersidev 17 of a l placement cap 18 upon the other. The cap 18 is secured to the upper end of the shaft by any suitable means as by threaded members 19. A cross head, or yoke, 20 is'journaled about a cross head pin 21 that is disposed'and adequately supported within the lower end of the primary shaft 13. A countershaft 22 is journaled within suitable bearings within the base portion of the frame and an 'eccentric 23 is formed within the central portion of the countershaft 22. The cross head, or yoke, 20 is journaled upon its one end to the countershaft 22 and upon its oppositely disposed end to the cross head pin 21. As the shaft 22 is rotated, an up and down movement, or oscillating movement, is imparted to the main shaft 13. The countershaft 22 is journaled within suitable bearings disposed within the base of the machine. Shims 24 are provided within the bearing to facilitate the taking up of the bearing andto thereby raise and lower themain shaft 13' relative to plates 29, that are in registerable engagement with a recess formed within the outer surface of the frustaconical member 15 to eliminate a part of the strain that would be otherwise developed upon the fastening bolts 30. A
protector shield block 31 is disposed about the upper end of the hub 10, and is in engagement with the outer surface of the main shaft.
'Suitablecompressible washers 32 may be placed between the protector shield block 31 and the upper end of the hub 10 and the upper end of the bearing 9. The purpose of the same is to prevent gritty material from entering, as much as possible, the bearing surfaces disposed between the main shaft and the bearing 9. A lubricating hole 33 extends through the side wall of the base of the frame and through the arms or spokes 11 and through the bearing 9. A pressure is built up within the bearing by a lubricator 34 that is disposed at a higher elevation than the upper surface of the hub 10 and the bearing 9 in order to lubricatethe same. To reduce the weight of the elements placed above the cross head, or yoke 20, the main shaft, and especially the frustaconical portion of the same, may be made hollow. A shield 35 is placed upon the spider 7 and aboutthe shaft to prevent foreign material from getting into the hearing 14 and the wearing surface of the shaft. Discharge spouts 36 are provided through the side walls of the base of the frame for liberating the crushed material being developed by the crusher. A base flange 37 is disposed about the lower surface of the base of the frame for supporting the same.
While the form of mechanism herein shown and described is admirably adapted to fulfill the objects primarily stated, it is to be understood that it is not intended to confine the invention to the one form of embodiment herein shown and described, as it is susceptible of embodiment in various forms, all com ing within the scope of the claim which follows.
What I claim is:
In a device of the class described, the combination of a main frame composed of upper and lower sections fabricated together, a cross yoke removably secured to the upper end of the frame, a main shaft reciprocably disposed within bearings that are in axial alignment with each other that are removably secured to a hub disposed within the base of the frame and to the cross yoke, the bearings being in axial alignment with each other, a placement cap removably secured to the upper end of the main shaft and a compressible element dis posed between the cross yoke and the placement cap, means for imparting an up and down movement to the main shaft, sets of i Wearing plates disposed in spaced relationship with each other disposedwithin the upper portion of the frame and about the shaft, and means for predetermining the spaced relationship of the respective pairs of plates.
