Description
'A g- 11. A. E. Roo
' WIRE FENCE Filed Dec. 25, 1929 gmmtoaa A. LiRoos Patented Aug. 30, 1932 UNITED, STATES.
ALBERT E. RODS, OF DUNBAR, NEBRASKA WIRE, FENCE Application filed December 23, 1929. Serial No. 416,007.
This invention relates to wire fences, and
has for its object to provide an effective means for stretching sections of wire fence,
or pane-ls between supporting posts.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device of this character having means" for taking up slack in the fence panels.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device of this character which may be '10 adapted without material structural. change to wire fences of any form in common use.
With these and other objects in View the invention consists of the structure herein shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawing illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a conventional Wire fence panel and a pair of supporting posts with the improved tightening devices applied;
Figure 2 is a plan view;
Figure 3 is an end elevation of the structure shown in Figure 1;
Figures 4, 5, and 6 are enlarged details of one of the gripping and stretching devices;
Figures 7 and 8 are enlarged details of one of the brace clamps;
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the following specification, and in the several views in the drawing in which, for the purpose of illustration a pair of supporting posts are shown at 10 suitably supported by braces 11. At their upper ends the braces 11 are coupled to the posts 10 bystraps 12 and clamp bolts 13, and embedded at their lower ends in the ground, indicated at 14. V
Preferably the braces will be provided with lateral feet 15, to insure stability and to prevent the braces being displaced by the action of frost or the like. The fence panel is indicated conventionally as a wholeat 16, and includes terminal stays 17 The improved stretching mechanism is adaptable to any of the forms of wire fence material in common use, and includes clamp bars 18 and 19 bearing upon sides of the longitudinal runners of the fence material near the ends, or relatively close to the terminal stays 17.
- 19 will firmly At suitable intervals clip'd'evices 20 are at- .tached to the posts 10, and each provided with a threaded extension 21, which is extended between the bars 18 and. 19 and each provided with an adjusting nut 22.
The bars 18 and 19 are formed with coacting sockets 23-24; to embrace the extensions 21, and the bars clamped. against the portion 21, by clamp bolts 25' and 26, and by setting up on these bolts the bars 18 and grip the wire runners of the fence panel.
By this arrangement it will be obvious that the fence panel may be stretched longitudinally to any required extent by actuating the on nuts 22. p
Having described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is: Fence tightening means including clamping means for attachment to fencing material at an extremity thereof, a plurality of eye bolts having eyes for encircling a fence post whereby said eye bolts are slidably adjustable on the fence post, the shanks of said eye bolts 7 being tangential to the eyes thereof whereby said shanks may be adjusted into alignment with the fencing material by turning said eye bolts about the fence post as an axis, said clamping means being provided with a pluso rality of apertures for receiving the shanks of said eye bolts, and nuts engaging the shanks of said eye bolts.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ALBERT E. ROOS.
