UNITED STATES PATENT Qrrron LOUIS SCHMETZER, OF ROTHENBURG-ON-THE-TAUBER, BAVARIA, GERMANY.
IMPROVEMENT IN S ECTIONAL TOVS.
Specification for-ming part of Letters Patent NO. 187.322, dated February 13, 1877 application filed December 12, 1876.
To all whom it may concm Be it known that I, LoUIs SCHMETZER, of Rothenburg On the Tauber, Bavaria, Germany, have invented a new and improved Seotional Toy, which is fully set forth in the following Specification and accompanying drawing in which- Figure l is a sectional front view of my improved toy. Fig. 2 is a detail side view of one of the dressed members. Fig. 3, a sec:
tional side view of the latter.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
This invention relates to that class of sectional toys in which the figures or articles are' composed of several pieces, which may be piece to which it is attached but leaves the other j oint exposed, in order to alloW the different pieces to be properly connected, all as is hereinafter more fully set out.
ln thedrawing, the letters A B C D E and F represent the several pieces or sections of a suitable sectional toy, said pieces being provided with tenons and grooves at their ends, or otherwise adapted to bemutually connected. The body of each of these sections is covered wi h anappropriate and separate piece of dress, A' B'. D', 850., made of woven fabric,
paper, or other suitable material, and tacked,
glued, sewed, tied, or otherwise fastened to the respective sections of the toy.
This dress should be of such a length that it laps over and conceals one of the joints of the section to which it is applied, but leaves the other joint uncovered. In uniting the different sections the uncovered joint of one section should be connected with the covered joint of the other section, so that thereby both joints will be concealed under the garment. But, instead of this, both joints of one section may be covered and both joints ot' two other sections remain uncovered'.
[ claim as my invention The combination of the sections A B O D E F, provided with joints at their ends, with the sectional dress-pieces A' B' D' F', arranged to cover the bodies of the sections and lap over one of the joints, leaving the other joint uncovered, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
The foregoing description of my invention signed by me this l9th'day of June, 1876.
LOUIS SCHMETZER.
