Description

1932- M. L. YARCHO COSMETIC CONTAINER Filed Oct. 5, 1951 My Z diam/bx 2%; Mi
r XXX Patented Aug. 23, 1932 UNITED STATES MARY L. YABGHO, OF DES MOINES, IOWA COSMETIC CONTAINER Application filed October 5, 1931.
or outer container of very simple construction, which has a IIIOVZtblB cover or lid provided on its under side with a resilient member adapted to contact with the open mouths or necks'of the inner compartments or containers for making a tight joint therewith.
It is a further purpose to provide in connection with such an outer container one or more inner containers having removable covers, the members being of such sizes that the covers of the inner containers may be removed and placed on the bottom of the larger container for thus supporting the inner containers in the exact position where their necks or mouths will cooperate properly with the lid of the outer container, which then serves as a tight closure for the inner container.
Another purpose is to provide means for holding such top covers for the inner containers in predetermined positions on the bottom of the outer container.
lVith these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of my cosmetic container, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of a cosmetic container structure embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal, vertical sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a transverse, sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a vertical, sectional view of a portion of the container with the parts in their positions and conditions when the de- Serial No. 566,857.
vie; is originally delivered to the customer; an
Figure 5 is a fragmentary, vertical sectional view of one end of the outer container showing a slight modification of the sealed lining of the cover.
In the accompanying drawing, I have used the reference numeral to indicate generally what I will call the outer container. As shown this is in the form of a rectangular box, which, however, may be of any desired shape, material or finish.
The outer container 10 has the cover 11 hinged at its rear edge as indicated at 12. A ribbon or the like 13 may be connected with the under side of the cover and with the wall of the container for limiting the outward swinging movement of the cover.-
The under side of the cover 11 is covered with a sheet 14 of suitable material adapted to coact with the mouths or necks of the inner containers for tightly sealing them. The sheet 14 may be of composition cork, rubber or any material suitably adapted for the purpose and is designed to fit just inside the wall of the container 10. The cover may be of .such size and shape as to permit a mirror to be slidably received therein.
The cover 11 and the outer container 10 are provided with coacting looking or latch members 15 and16 of any character suitable for the purpose. a
Received within the outer container 10 is a plurality of inner containers. These may be of such size, shapes and number as may be desired.
As shown, I have indicated a jar or inner container 17 for instance for cleansing cream, two smaller jars or containers 18 and 19 for tissue and a foundation cream, and a jar or container 20 for a skin freshener or tonic.
These inner containers may, of course, be used for any cosmetics or accessories that might be selected for the purpose. The inner containers or part of them at least are preferably provided with upwardly eXtending necks 21, which may be externally threaded as shown and which may be provided with the threaded caps or tops 22.
The outer container 10 is made of such depth and the inner containers and their caps aremade of such sizes that the tops 22 many be removed and placed underneath their respective inner containers, and when so placed they will hold the inner containers at such heights that the necks of the inner containers will be sealed by the sheet 14 when the cover 11 is in closed position as shown in Figure 2.
I may provide under each of the inner containers a raised portion 23 of smaller diameter thanthe corresponding cap for holding the cap against being accidentally moved out of position when it is placed on the bottom of the outer container.
These raised portions 23 may be annular and may be threaded as at 24 to correspond to the threading of the caps to allow adjustment of the'caps if that is desirable or found necessary. The threads may be omitted or if desired the raised portions themselves may be omitted, and the containers permitted to rest on the caps.
In Figure 5, I have shown the cover 11 provided with a sheet 14a similar to the sheet 14, but provided on its under surface with depressions 25 of such size as to snugly receive the necks of the respective inner containers.
When my improved cosmetic container structure is prepared for sale, the inner containers are filled with the proper cosmetics or accessories and the caps are placed thereon, whereupon the inner containers are placed in the outer container 10.
Preferably the inner containers are of such size that the selected group will snugly fill the outer container.
Tissue or the like 26 may be placed above the inner containers in the original packing of the unit.
The user may then carry the entire structure in convenient form for traveling.
If the containeris to be used for some time in one place, the inner containers may be removed and their tops taken off and placed over the respective raised portions 23 as illustrated in Figure 2 and the inner containers replaced. Thereupon when the cover 11 is closed, the sheet 14 or 14a as the case may be will snugly fit over and seal the racks of the inner containers. This preserves the contents of the containers and yet leaves them readily accessible upon raising the cover 11.
It will be seen that a container structure of this kind can be made of such material as may be desired and may be decorated in any way to suit the manufacturer and the public.
The arrangement is very simple and yet is convenient and effective. The user may have access to a plurality of inner cosmetic containers by simply raising the one cover 11 and may close all of them by simply lowering that one cover.
The outer container 10 is assumed to be of permanent character, while the inner containers 17-20 for instance will be subject to replacement by similar containers procured to replenishthe supply of cosmetics or substance, which may have been dispensed with.
The particular form of the device here shown is simply illustrative, and it is my purpose to cover by my claims any modifications in form or size, use of material or number of inner containers, which may properly be within the scope and spirit of my invention.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a container structure of the kind described, an outer container having a hinged cover provided on its under surface with a sealing member adapted to coact with the mouths of inner containers for sealing them, combined with inner containers havmg removable caps, the parts being of such sizes that the caps may be removed from the inner containers and placed under their respective containers, whereupon such inner containers will be held in roper position for the purpose of sealing their mouths when the cover of the outer container is closed.
2. In a container structure of the kind described, an outer container having a bin 3. In a container structure of the kind described, an outer container having a hinged cover provided on its under surface with a sealing member adapted to coact with the mouths of inner containers for sealing them, combined with inner containers having removable caps, the parts being of such sizes that the caps may be removed from the inner containers and placed under their respective containers, whereupon such inner containers will be held in proper position for the purpose of sealing their months when the cover of the outer container is closed, said structure including means for holding the caps in place under their respective containers.
4. In a container structure of the kind described, an outer container having a hinged cover provided on its under surface with a sealing member adapted to coact with the mouths of inner containers for sealing them, combined with inner containers having removable caps, the parts being of such sizes that the caps may be removed from the inner containers and placed under their respective containers, whereupon such inner containers will be held in proper position for the purpose of sealing their mouths when the cover of the outer container is closed, said outer container having means on its bottoms for holding the caps in position, said upwardly extending parts and said caps having coacting threads.
5. In a container structure of the kind described, an outer container having a hinged cover provided on its under surface with a sealing member adapted to coact with the mouths of inner containers for sealing them, combined with inner containers having removable caps, the parts being of'such sizes that the caps may be removed from the inner containers and placed under their respective containers, whereupon such inner containers will be held-in proper position for the purpose of sealing their mouths when the cover of the outer container is closed, the sealing member having recesses to receive and fit the mouths of the inner containers.
