It may be here stated that, broadly speak-` l ing, inside-trips are old in the art and I wish,
therefore, to call particular attention to the novel connection of the inside-trip device with the latch 32, or its equivalent, and the automatic locking feature of the said insidetrip device, as will be presently described.
The body-member 20 is formed with an axially-arranged cylindrical'chamber43, the reary end of which is reduced in diameter as at 44 and extends throughout the length of the shank 21 Vof the said body-member. Now let it be supposed that it isdesiredto cut a longer thread upon a piece of work than the tool is set for in the accompanying' drawings before the latch 32 is'retracted to effect the retirement of the chasers and hence the cessation of the threading-operation. This adjustment may be effected by inserting the polygonal terminal 55 of a wrench such as 56 into the hexagonal socket 54 in the forward end of the tripping-stem 52.
The insertion of the wrench in the manner above described and as shown in Fig. 5 will effect the rearward movement of the latchingplunger 58 to a degreesuficient to disengage its coupling-rib 6 0 from whichever of the Grooves 57-57 in which it ma vhave been e Y located, so that the said tripping-stein 52 may now be rotated by means of the wrench 56 as required to effect the desired adjustment of the tripping-point of the die-head.
When the-trippingstem 52 has -beenadjusted to the desired point, the withdrawal of the wrench 56 will permit the spring 61 to move the latching-plunger 58 forwardly again so as to reengage its coupling-13110160 with whichever one of the grooves 574-57 inthe tripping-slide at that time happens'to be'aligned with it, so that thesaid trippingstem is locked in itsnewly-adjust'ed position against accidental displacement.l

In a self-opening die-head, the combination with the body and chasers thereof; of a Chaser-latching member; a two-part releasing-device mounted Within the die-head structure and operatively connected to the said Chaser-latching member, and including a. hollow slide and a hollow slide-extension screw-threaded to the said slide and having a wrench-engaging portion; a latching member axially movable within the said hollow slide and having a stem forwardly projecting through the said hollow slide-extension into a position adjacent the wrench-engaging portion of the latter so as to be moved by a wrench to effect the unlatching of the said slide and slide-extension as an incident to the engagement of the said Wrench with the said slide-extension; and a spring housed within the said hollow slide in position to exert a constant efort to force the said latching-member forward into its latching position.

In a self-opening die-head, the combination with the body and chasers thereof; of a Chaser-latching member; a two-part releasing-device mounted within the die-head structure and operatively connected to the said Chaser-latching member, and including a hollow slide and a hollow slide-extension screw-threaded to the said slide and having a wrench-engaging portion and a latchingabutment at its rear end; and a latchingmember axially movable within the said hollow slide with which it is interlooked against relative rotary movement and having a latching-abutment engageable with the latching-abutment of the said slide-extension for releasably interlocking the same with the said slide and also having a stem forwardly projecting through the said hollow slide-extension into a position adjacent the wrenchengaging portion of the latter so as to be moved by a wrench to eect the unlatching of the said slide and slide-extension as an incident to the engagement of the said wrench with the said slide-extension.

In a self-opening die-head, the combination with the body, chasers and chaseroperating member thereof, o-f a latch-carrying ring mounted upon the said body with capacity for axial adjustment thereupon, a radially and axially movable latching-member carried by the said ring, with respect to which it has radial movement and adaptedk to releasably hold the Chaser-operating member in its Chaser-closing position, atripping-member mounted Within the die-head structure in position to he moved by engagement with the Work and itself engaged directly With a portion of the latohing-member for moving the saine radially inward intol its unlatehed position, and adjusting-means 10 for moving the said latch-carrying ring axially for adjusting the Chaser-operating member.
