Description

B. M. SYLVAN Aug. 9, 1932.
SAFETY RAZOR Filed June 20, 1931 Inventor .5 M 5/1. I/AIV Patented Aug. 9, 1932 oFFica BENJ'AHIN I. SYLVAN, F NEVTYOEK, N. Y.
EAB'ETY RAZOR Application filed June so, iaai. Serial at. 546,729.
' The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in cutlery, and more particularly it pertains to safety razors.
It is one ofthe primary objects of the inl is vention to provide a safety razor which will the blades used 0 in a novel form of construction whereby the Elli blade clamping element is permanently attached to the head of the razor and thus all necessity of completely removing the clamp is obviated. i
A still further object of the invention is to provide a safety razor in which the several parts may be adjusted without necessitating any screw action thus eliminating all threaded connections.
A. further object of the invention resides in the provision of a. novel form of s ring clip for holding the guard in blade ho ding position upon the head of the razor.
With the above and other objects in view, reference will be had to the accompanying 7 drawing, wherein;
Figure 1 is a view in elevation showing a razor constructed in accordance with the present invention, I
Figure 2 is'a view partly in section and partly in elevation showing the blade clamp in dot and dash lines in its open position,
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the razor,
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the blade used in connection with a razor of the type disclosed in the present invention, and;
Figure 5 is a detail fragmentary sectional view taken on an enlarge scale.
Referring specifically to the drawing, the reference character designates the head of the razor. The head of the razor is of frusto pyramidal form, and is provided along its base edges with a plurality of guard teeth 11. A handle 12 is provided, and said handle is preferably formed integral with the head 10 although it is to be understood that the handle 12 may be a separate element if desired.
The reference character 14 designates a blade clamping plate, and said blade clamping plate 14 conforms in shape to the shape edges thus ma.
of the head 10 and is adapted to enclose the same when the blade clamping plate is in blade holding position.
The blade clamping plate 1 1- is preferably pivotally connected to the head 10 at two corners thereof, and for this purpose the blade clamping plate as illustrated in Figure 5, is formed with lugs or the like 15 perforated to receive pintles or the like 16 carried by the head 10 at two corners thereof and which form the means for pivotally connecting the blade clamping plate 14 to the head 10.
Upon the two remaining corners, the blade clamping plate is provided with resilient fingers or the like 17 and as illustrated at B in Figure 5, these resilient fingers are adapted for engagement beneath the edge of the head 10 at these two'corners in order to form a resilient catch for holding the blade clamping member in blade clamping position.
As indicated by the reference character 18, the head 10 is notched to receive the resilient fingers 17, and. as notched to receive the In s 15 which form the pivotal mounting of the lade clamping plate 1 1 The blade is formed from a single piece of material, and is of frusto pyramidal form in order to conform in shape tothe head 10 and the blade clam ing plate- 14. The blade has four cutting e ges 20 and at the end of each of the cutting edges, notches 21 are provided, the purpose of which is to accommodate the depending lugs 15 which form the pivotal mounting for the blade clamping plate and the spring fingers 17 which form the spring catches for holding the blade clamping plate in blade holding position.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that the present invention provides a safety razor in which, except for the blade, the several parts are permanently attached to each other and the construction provides for the ready attachment and detachment of the blade without necessitating complete removal of any of the parts. While the invention has been herein disclosed in a preferred form, it is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited to at 19, the head'is the specific construction herein shown and that it may be practiced in other forms without departing from the spirit thereof.
' Havmg thus described the invention, what downwardly and outwardly relative to'said open truncation, and notches being provided in the corner portions of the blade.
In testimon whereof I afiix my si ature.
ENJAMIN M. SYL AN.
head, a blade clampin member, conforming in sha e to said hea and adapted to enclose t e same, In projecting from two adacent corners 0 said clamping plate for reception in two of the notches in said head to ivotally-mount the clamping plate on the ead, and spring fingers projecting from the remaining two corners of the clamping plate for enga ement in the remaining two notches of lll16ld to secure said clamping plate in blade holding position.
2. A safety razor comprising a head of truncated pyramidal form, a blade clamping member conforming in shape to said bee and hingedly connected to and adapted to enclose the same and detachably secured in closed osition, and a blade of truncated pyrami a1 form interposed and held between the head and the clamping member, said blade having a rectangular opening larger than the truncation of the head and also having sides inclined downwardly and outward ly and held against the corresponding sides of the head.
3. A safety razor comprising a head of truncated pyramidal form, guard teeth formed on the base edges of said head, notches formed at the base corners of said head, a blade clamping plate conforming in shape to said head and adapted to enclose the same,
lugs projecting from two adjacent corners arranged between the head and the clamping plate, said blade also having a rectangular opening larger than the truncation of the head and sides inclined downwardly and outwardly and resting against the corresponding sides of the head.
4. As an article of manufacture,'a safety razor blade of truncated pyramidal form, the truncation being open and the sides inclined downwardly and outwardly relative to said open truncation.
5. As an article of manufacture, a safety razor blade or truncated pyramidai form, the truncation being open and the sides inclined
