IMPROVEMENT IN BOOTS AND SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters `Patent No. 186,958, dated Februar-yb, 1877; application tiled January 4, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it' known that I, HERMAN SAMSON, of Ames, in the State OfNeW York, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Boots and Shoes, which improvement is fully set forth in the following speeication and accompanying drawing, in which* cover, B, ot' leather is fitted,` lying close and tight upon the ,duppers, and fastened together with the upper-leather to the sole C, in the usual manner. This second cover B may. if desirable, be fastened with one Or more stitches at the instep a, and at the heel n, and at the sides to the part A; also, woolen or Oil cloth may be attached to the interior surface of the cover B. This arrangement produces a good overshoe to the hoot or shoe superior to an india-rubber shoe, as the same can easily be mended when required or torn, and does away with all objections to the oontinued .wearing of india-rubber overshoes.
In spring-time, or whenever it is nO more required to wear overshoes, this second cover B can easily be out away close to the sole with a suitable instrument, without disfiguring but rather improving the appearance, thereby creating a broader edge, leaving then a regular boot or shoe for future wear.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hoot or shoe provided with a foXing extending entirely around the same, and united at the sole-seam only, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
