forms. Other objects will readily occur to those skilled in the art upon reference to the following description and the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is sectional view on line 11 of Fig. 2 showing the cap construction, and Fig. 2 is a plan view from below.
As indicated in the drawing the cap com- 4 prises, four elements, first the cover 10 which consists of a drum-shaped metal member the with the vertical axis.
sides of which 11 are substantially parallel If it is desired to make the cap easy to disassemblethe sides 11 may be slightly flared as shown on the drawing. "K
Adapted to fit into the lower edge of the cap 10 is a spider element 12 which has a circular opening 13 eccentrically located with respect to the cap and having the remaining portions cut away to leave several spokes,
each provided with a small car 14, there bein also ears 14 at other locations in the severa openin The third element consists of the clamp member 16 which is of the well lmown s l1t ring or clamping ring construction, ut which is rovided at one .end with'several cars 17 w ich are bent inwardly and then upwardly over the inner edge of opening 13.
The fourth element of'the cap is a screen 20 which overlies the spider member 12 andis perforated to receive the ears 14 and also v provided withyan opening of substantially the same area'as opening 13. l
The screen member is first assembled on the, s ider by bending over the severalears 14,- these havin been passed through the perforations of the screen and then the clamp member 16 is 17 holding it 1n place over the opening 13. When these parts have been assembled the spider carryin \the screen is pressed in the lower end of. t e cap member 10 where it is held securely.
-Now having described the invention and the preferred form of embodiment, it is to be understood that the said invention is to be limited not to the specific construction described and illustrated but only by the scope of the claim which follows. i
I claim: 1 1
A vent cap comprising a dome portion, a spider fixed in the lower edge thereof and having a circular opening eccentrically locatedtherein, integral tongues extending from the edges of the arms of said spider, a screen fixed to the inner face of said spider by means of said tongues, and an expanding clamp mounted over the said circular openin and substantially boncentric therewith, said clamp having tongues bent to embrace the edge of said opening.
In testimony whereof,
