Description

l. SIMON LAST July 19, 1932.
Patented July 19, 1932 UNITED STATI-:s
PATENT .ol-Fica Isrnonnsrmon, or orIIoAeo, ILLINOIS j i Original application led October 12, 1927, Serial No. 225,763.- .VDvded and this application led December i 9, 1929. serial 110,412,745. j
This invention pertains to the general class of devices on which shoes, and the like, for correcting foot ailments may be formed, and embodies'scientific principles as applied to shoes and their innersoles as disclosed in the application.
.The present application is a division of my copending application led October 12, l927-Serial NO. 225,763. v
A further object of this invention is to` provide a last on which shoes, or the like, having a particular construction may be formed, and which are intended to prevent and correct abnormal distribution and abnormal direction of forces in various parts of the human foot. i. Y, n l
A further object of this invention is `to provide a last for the production of devices, particularly shoes and their innersoles, for preventing, correcting and checking undue strains and stresses and abnormal distribution of forces in andv between the parts of the human foot, and for treating feet subjected to said abnormal stresses, strains and forces.
A further object of this invention is the production of apparatus for producing devices, such as shoes and their innersoles, for the purpose of preventing, correcting and checking abnormal strains and stresses and abnormal distribution of forces in the human foot, and for treating feet subjected to abnormal forces.
Many other objects and advantages of the construction herein shown and described will be obvious to those skilled in the art from the disclosure herein given.
To this end, my invention consists in theY novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
j In the drawing, wherein like reference characters indicate like or corresponding parts:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a last embodying features of the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of a last showing an innersole applied thereto, the view being taken as indicated by the line 2 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is atransverse sectional `elevation of the last shown in Figs. 1 and 2 with an innersole applied thereto, and taken substantially as indicated by the line 3 3 of Fig. 1; j'
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional elevation of the last taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1 showing an innersole applied, thereto, and illustrating the position of a wedge, aconcavity and a split innersole; j -A Fig. 5 is a top plan view of a modified form of last showing anelevation opposite the lateral tubercle of the oscalcis; and
Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional elevation of an innersole showing a concavity for the lateral as well as the median tubercle, andadapted for use in conjunction with the modified form of last shown in Fig. 5. Ik v 1 .The present invention comprises a last-35 Vhaving a depression formed therein as atr 36 (Figvl) to receive an embossed portion'26 previously formed on vaniinnerside 25,'the greatest elevation of the embossed portion and the greatest depth of the depression 36 being :located at a point on the center line of the foot'oppositethe shafts of the secondanhd third metatarsal bones, respectively, at the junction of their medial and distal thirds. At thispoint is formed one angle fof an isoseelesv triangle, the base and head of thev fifth metatarsal beingat the other two points, the baseoff the triangle extending fromthe point of juncture Vmentioned above to the head `of the fifth metatar'sal: This formation of the depression 36 is accomplished bytooling out the last to accommodate the embossed portion V26 of the innersole.` l t The last is'further formed with an elevation or boss 39'.located` approximately centrally of the heel portionf Theelevation or` bosslikeformation fits into thecavity of a depression 29 previously formed in the heel seat of the innersole. f Y
Theheel of the lastis further shaped to receive the elevation on the innersole `caused byl a wedge 27, by cutting down the material Y of the last shownat 41, forming two` inclined planes 41 and-12, the plane 41 having its lowerpoint located at the medial or inner bor- 100 der and its highest point terminating at the center line (see Fig. l), while the longitudinal inclined plane 42 has its lowest point located at the posterior border 43 of the heel and terminates at the junction of t-he heel 44 and shank 45, with the exception of the additional elevation 39 ata point located beneath the median tubercle of the oscalcis and adapt- Ving, its greatest elevation located at a point on the center line of the foot oppositethe shafts ofV the second' and third metatarsal bones atthe junction of their medial and. distal thirds; that the present invention provides a last having an elevation or boss-like formation adapted tok fit into a concavity or depression previously formed in the heell seat of an innersole at a point locatedbeneath the media-n tubercle of the oscalcis; and that, the present invention contemplates a last having two inclined planes, one of which has its lower point llocated at the medial or inner border and its highest point terminating at they center line of the last while the other longitudinal inclined plane has its lowest point located at the posterior border of the heel .and terminates approximately `at c the junction of the heel and shank portion of the last except forV the elevation orl boss located beneath the median tubercle of the oscalcis.
Having thus described my invention, it is obvious that various immaterial modications may be. made' in the same without departing from the' spirit of my invention; hence yI do not wish to bey understood as vlimiting myself to theexact form, construc tion,.arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described, or uses men-- tioned. Y
What I claim as newxand desire by Letters Patent is :1.
1.- Ina shoey last in combination, a depression inthe' shankthereof opposite the metatarsa'l'bones-,.and the innerrear edge of the heel portion laterally of the. medianitubercle of the oscalcis beingl lowered a substantial predetermined amount with? respect to the remaining portion of theheel. f
2. In aL shoe last in combination, a depression` in theshank .thereof opposite the meta'-y tarsalxbones, an embossedl elevation in the heel portion thereof opposite the media-1r to secure tubercle of the oscalcis, and the inner rear edge of the heel portion laterally and to the rear of the median tubercle of the oscalcis being lowered a predetermined amount with respect to the remainder of the heel p0r-Y tion.
3.. In a shoe last of the kind described and in combination, a depression in the shank thereof, an eleva-tion in the heel portion thereof opposite the median tubercle of the oscalcis, a second elevation in the heel portion thereof opposite the lateral tubercle 'of the oscalcis,; and the inner portion; of the.
heel thereof receding toward the inner rear edge of the heel.
4.- A shoe last having; a depression inthe shank thereof,1 the greatest depth of; said depression beingapproximately along a ver-v ticall line intersecting the center lineof the foot and also intersecting, a linejoining, the second and third metatarsal bones, the latter line drawn from. thejunctionofthe medi isIDoRE.
