IMPROVEMENT IN SCHOOL-DESK SEATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. I S6,729., dated January 30, 1877; application filed August 28, 1876.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELDRIDGE HAYNEs, of
Kirks Cross Roads, iur-the county'of Ulintonv and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved School-Desk and Seat, of which the following is a specification Y In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a vertical transverse section of my improved school-desk and seat, taken on line w cc, Fig. 2; and Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same. y

The inventionconsists in combining the guide-stays and seat-supports, as hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawing, A represents the desk, that is supported 0n side standards B, provided with a curved stationary back, (l. The side standards B have recesses a beiow the back, which admit of the swinging of the seat D into the same when thrown up into upright position. The supports Dl of the seat Dare fulcrumed by strong bolts b to the parts of the side standards extending in front of the Y'tact with the lower cushioned recesses. The fulcrumed supports D are extended to such Ilength that they come in conends ot' stopstrips E, attached to the inner side of the standards B. When the seat is thrown up into vertical position the supports D form contact with metallic stays or brackets F, that are screwed to the side standards and to the.
fulcrums ofthe seats, as shown in Fig. 2, so as to strengthen the bolts and define the eX- tent of motion of the seat, forming thus a strong, simple, and cheap construction of desk and seat combined.
I am aware that it is not new to construct a school-desk with recessed standards and interior cushion-stops, and I do not therefore claim such devices; but
