Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,723,.dated January 30, 1877; application tiled November 25, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEWIs W. HAMILTON, of Pendleton, in the county of Umatilla and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Shears or mediate of the nippers and shears, and the,
shanks of the latter are provided with a fingerloop and guard.
I desire it to be'understood, however, that I do not claim, broadly, an implement combining the functions of nippers and shears.
In the drawing, A A indicate the jaws of the nippers, which are made cup-shaped or recessed. B B are the cutters or blades formed on the opposite end of the levers,
which are pivoted together in the manner of ordinary shears. 'lo adapt the instrument to be reversed, to bring either the nippers or shears into-use, I provide one lever with a loop, 0, which is made to turn freely and is secured by riveting or other suitable means. The other lever or shank of the instrument is provided with the guard c, to facilitate the opening of the instrument by the action of the fingers.
,In the operation of castration, the end of the pouch or scrotum is cut off with the shears B, and, the instrument being reversed in the hand, the testicles are drawn by means of the nippers A.
What I claim as new is- The improved veterinary surgical instrument, formed of nippers having cup-shaped jaws, the cutters or shears B B, the guard c and a loop, 0, combined and arranged in the manner shown and described. LEWIS WOODS HAMILTON. Witnesses:
