Qur invention relates to devices for holding printing members in printing presses such for example as chases for printing presses.
One of the objects of the invention is to Q provide a simple, practical and advantageous form or construction of device of the class specified.
Another object of the invention is to arrange for or permit the adjustment of the 1o holding device in the press or otherwise.
Anotherv object of the invention is to arrange for the practical quick and effective operation of the adjusting arrangement.
Another object of the invention is to secure simplicity and inexpensiveness of construction.
Another object of the invention is to provide an adjusting mechanism which will be useful either in connection with a printers chase or in connection with aplate base Jfor holding a printing plate or the like.
Another object of the invention is to arrange for or permit the adjustment of the printing plate on the base and to provide simple and practical means for accomplishing the same.
Another object of the invention is to arrange simple and practical devices for holding the printing plate down in position on the base.
Another object of the invention is to secure the foregoing and other desirable results in a simple and expeditious manner.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a device for holding a printing element, as for example, a printers chase and mounting and adjusting means for embodying our invention.
Figs. 2, 3, and 4 are cross sections taken on lines 2 2, 3-3 and 4-4 in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings and particularly Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, we show a chase 1, in a printing press having side elements 2 and 3.
The chase 1 is provided with means by which it may be adjusted in various ways, as for example, bodily in a side to side manner or bodily in a vertical manner or angularly or in any two ormore of these ways. In the arrangement shown we provide pins 4-4 located at one side of the chase and provided withcontrolling springs 5 5 the outer ends of said pins 4 being arranged against the vertical device or element 3 and the inner endsv ofsaid pins beingfitted into sockets 6 in the adjacent side of chase 1, as shown in Fig. 3.
On the opposite side of chase 1, we provide an adjusting element or device such as a screw 8 having a thumb piece 9 preierably4 provided with 'numerals or iigures 10 to secure accuracy 'of fit. This screw 8 lits into a threaded socket 11 in the adjacent side of the chase. The outer end 12 of the screwiits against .a fixedv element 13 in thev press.
By such arrangement the chase may be adjusted sidewise in either direction by adjusting threaded screw 8 by turnin it with the fingers. Any' adjustment of t e screw will be accommodated and taken care of by the spring controlled pins 4.
We also show other adjusting means comprising other pins 14 provided with controlling springs 15 and arranged to have their heads acting against a lower printing press element 16 and their other ends arranged in sockets in the chase 1. Other adjusting elements such as threaded screws 18 with finger membersv or heads 19 and indicating numerals 20 are arranged in connection with the upper frame element of chase 1 and also in connection with the upper press element 2. Thus, by turning screws 18 either one or both, adjustment of the chase 1 may be secured, and this may be bodily vertical adjustment or angular adjustment. In this way adjustment of the chase in practically any desired manner, vertically, horizontally or angularly may be secured.
It will be understood that changes and modiiications may be made without departing from the` spirit of the invention.
What we claim is:
1. In a device of the character described the combination of a threaded adjusting element and an outwardly projecting spring controlled pin cooperating therewith for adjustably holding a member in a desired position.
2. In a device of the character described the combination of an adjustable threaded member adapted to control the position of a member to be supported thereby and a spring controlled outwardly projecting pin assembly cooperating with said threaded member, said threaded member being adapted to operate centrally of one side of the `member to be supported and the pin assembly being adapted to operate centrally of the other side thm'eof. v Y

In im apparatus of the character described, the combination of a pair of adjustable threaded members adapted to control the position of a member desired to be supported thereby and a pair of spring controlled outwardly projecting pins cooperating with said threaded members, said threaded membersy being adapted `to operate. atcorners. of' the4 member to besupported and the pins at. opposite corners.y
