Description

July 5, 1932. J. PRINZ BOILER FOR HOT WATER AND LOW PRESSURE STEAM HEATING Filed March 21, 1929 I II Patented July 5, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT" OFFICE JosnF rnmz, or. nrnsnnxnn, GERMANY BOILER non HO'I. wh'rnnnn'n LOW. PRESSURE STEAM-HEATHTGV Application filed March 21, 1929,. Serial No.
Boilers for hot water and low pressure steamheating are known in which smoke and water pockets are distributed alternately and is made of U-shaped cross-section and'that" theends of the arms are connected ;by a nonwater conducting wall which is removable.
or provided with a door; and further in that the water pockets extend continuouslyfrom the rear wall of'the boiler over the entire depth of the furnace and that the heating gases rise freely between the pockets and pass into the flue through a heating gas collecting chamber. 2 7
By removing the non-water-conducting wall or opening the door in this wall the pockets are exposed, so-that they canbe easily cleaned also when the boiler is inuse, whereby a good heat transmission is ensured, whereas, owing to the arrangement of the pockets a favorable guiding of the water and smoke is obtained.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 shows a vertical section through the middle of the boiler. Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 ofjFig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross-section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
' The boiler of U-shaped cross-section consists of a rear boiler chamber wall 2 and side chamber walls 3 connected to an upper water chamber 1. Betweenthe outer chambers 3 water pockets 1 are arranged uniformly distributed, and communicate with the water chambers 1 and 2. The hollow grate bars are inclined and hollow throughout their whole length. These bars are indirect comthe distributing plates 8 to flow intothe col? munication with the water. chamber 2.and

lecting' chamber 9 andthen to the discharg-- ing pipe 11 provided with a throttle valve 10. The flue gas collecting chamber 9 is sit uated along its whole length in the water jacket12 which has connecting flanges 13 for the heating surface, whereas the heating gases are returned through the tubular con- 7 nection 14E. The ends of the water chamber 3 are, according to the invention, interconnected by 7 a non-water-conducting wall which is either removable or provided with a door 17. A fire door 15 and an ashpit drop door 16 are also arranged in the front wall 2 of this boiler. By removing this water conducting wall or opening the door 17 the. heating gas flues areeasily accessible for cleaning. The flue gas collecting chamber 9 v is also provided with a removable cover 18r for the same purpose. When used'as boiler for a hot water heating installation the boiler has a thermometer 19 whereas when used as low-pressure steam boiler the necessary fit-- ting, such as water gauge and manometer are p i provided, in which case the chamber 12 serves as steam collector. J
I claim:. 1
i 1. Aboiler for hot water and low pressure steam heating installations, comprising. in combination a water jacket substantially U-shaped in transverse cross section closed at its top by a water and steam chamber, a'
plurality of spaced water pockets depending from said chamber and extending parallel with the arms of the U-shaped jacket, said pockets being in communication with the jacket at the rear, a furnace between the arms of the jacket and below said pockets, an offtake flue arranged in said chamber and" connected to the tops of the spaces between the I pockets, and readily removable means closing the open side of the U-shaped jacket. 7 2. A boiler construction as in claim 1,
-wherein the removable means comprises a door co-extensive with the pockets permitting cleaning of the spaces therebetween. '95
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. j
