The main object of our invention is to provide an autographic register that is simple and economical in construction, inexpensive in manufacture, and convenient and efiicient 5 in operation.
Another object of our invention is to provide improved means for facilitatin feed or adjustment of the record strip or strips so as to correctly position them for 10 theentry of a record thereon.
Objects relating to details and economies of our invention will appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined and pointed out in'theclaims.
A structure whichis a preferred embodiment of our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Referrin to Figs. 1 to 5, inclusive, of the drawings, t ere is illustrated a manifoldin autographic register constructed in accor ance with our invention'whichcomprises a removable cover 1 which is adapted to fit over the box 2, the top of which is open. The box 45 2 constitutes a compartment for storing the record strip or strips 3 which are adapted to be fed and positioned over the writing table 4 mounted within the cover or casing 1..
The writing table 4 is spaced slightly below the top5 of the cover which has a rectangular the opening 6 for the entry of a record on the record strip or strips 3, as illustrated by Fi 2. The inner end 7 of the writing table 4 is preferably curved downwardly as illustrated. The cover has an opening 8 for the passage ll of the stri s.
The strips 3 are weakened on transverse lines 9 against bending resistance so that a distinct checking impulse is imparted to the advancing strip when the weakened lines 9 reach the apex of the pivoted transverse strip positioning detent 10 which is mounted within the box at the rear of the writing table 4. The detent 10 is pivoted to the walls 11 of box 2 at 12 and is provided with a rearwardly extending arm 13, the roclfing movement of which is limited by stops 14 and 15. The upper stop 14 determines the initial position of detent 10 which is ur ed to such osition by leaf spring 16 carried y bracket 1 The bracket 17 is fixed to the wall 11 at-18.
As illustrated by Figs. 2 and 4, the strips 3 are advanced until the weakened lines 9 engage the detent 10 whereupon a distinct increase in resilience results, so that the operator is made aware that the strips are in proper position for the making of entries thereon. At this point the old record may be torn off at 19. a
The checking action of detent 10 is materially assisted by the vertically floating roller 20 which is adapted to ride on the strips 3 above the apex of detent 10. When the strips 3 are advanced, detent 10 is rocked against the force of spring 16 and the weighted roller 20 is elevated so asto release the weakened lines 9 of the strips 8 from the detent 10. However, when the succeeding weakened lines 9 are presented at the apex of detent 10, the weighted roller 20 coacts with the detent to increase the checking action of the latter on the strips.
As illustrated by Figs. 3 and 5, strips of transfer paper 21 are arranged between the record strips 3 over the writing table 4 so that records made an the top stri will be transferred to the lower strips. fie trans- .fer strips 21 a e supplied from the supply roll 22 which is carried to the s col or s in en es. y p P m In the modification illustrated by Figs. 6 and 7 of the drawings, the pivoted detent 10' is of slightly different construction and consists of a plate having flanged ends which are pivoted to the walls 7' at 12'. The leaf spring 16' carried by stationary bracket 17', urges the detent 10 upwardly or in itsinitial position. The wei hted roller 20 rests on the strips 3' imme iately above the apex of detent 10', as illustrated by Fig. 6. Stop 14' limits the rocking movement of detent 10 under the influence of leaf spring 16'. The operation of the detent 10 and 20 in checking the advance of the strips 3 is similar to that described above in connection with Figs. 1 to 5, inclusive. In the embodiment illustrated by Figs. 6 and 7, also, the box 2 is open ended and is provided with a sliding removable bottom 24 and side guide plates 25 for facilitating the adjustment of the record strips 3'.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications maybe made in the details of construction and desi n of the above specifically described embodlments of our invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:- Y
1. In a register of the class described, the combination with a casing having a com artment for storing a record strip, a writing table over which said strip may be positioned for entry of a record thereon, a pivoted transverse strip positioning idetent over which the strip passes when drawn forwardly to said writing table, said strip bein weakened on transverse lines against ben ing resistance and engaging said detent at said weakened lines to increase the resistance to the strip so as to facilitate the positioning of the strip upon said writing table. a vertically floatin weighting roller coacting with said pivote detent, stops limiting the rocking movement of said detent. and leaf spring means coacting with said pivoted detent to urge it into engagement with one of said stops whereby to resiliently hold it in an initial position such that when the strip is moved forward said detent is rocked against the force of said means to facilitate releasing said strip at said weakened lines.
2. In a register of the character described, the combination with a casing having a 00111- partment for storing a record strip, a writing table over which said strip may be positioned for entry of a record thereon, a p1voted transverse strip positioning detent over which the strip passes when drawn forward- 1y to said writing table, said strip being weakened on transverse lines against bending resistance and engaging said detent at said weakened lines to increase the resistance to the strip, so as to facilitate the positioning of the strip upon said writing table, and a floating weighting roller coacting with said pivoted detent, stops limiting the rocking movement of said detent, and spring means .coacting with said pivoted detent to urge it strip upon said writing table, stops limiting the rocking movement of said detent, and spring means coacting with said pivoted detent to urge it into engagement with one of said stops.
4. In a register of the character described, the combination with a casing having a compartment for storing a record strip, a writing table over which said strip may be positioned for entry of a record thereon, a pivoted transverse strip positioning detent over which the strip passes when drawn forwardly to said writing table, said strip being weakened on transverse lines against bending resistance and engaging said detent at said weakened lines to increase the resistance to the strip feed so as to facilitate positioning of the strip upon said writing table, and spring means coacting with said pivoted detent to utrge it into engagement with one of said s ops.
5. In a device of the class described, the combination with a casing having a compartment for the storing of a record strip weakened on transverse lines against bending reslstance, a. writing table at the top of said casing, a pivoted strip positioning detent disposed at the rear of said table and over which the strip is drawn in passing to the table, stops for limiting the pivotal movement of said detent, a spring acting to normally urge said detent downwardly and against one of said stops. and a floating weight adapted to ride on the strip above said detent.
6. In a device of the class described, the combination with a casing having a compartment for the storing of a record strip weakened on transverse lines against bending resistance, a writing table at the top of said casing, a pivoted strip positioning detent disposed at the rear of said table and over which the strip is drawn in passing to the table, stops for limiting the pivotal movement of said detent, and a spring acting to normally ing, a pivoted strip positioning detent dis- 4 posed at the rear of said table and over which the stri is drawn in positioning on the table, and a eating weight adapted to ride on the strip above said detent.

In a device of the class described, the combination with a casing having a. compartment for the storing of a record strip weakened on transverse ines against bending resistance, a writing table at the top of said casing, and a pivoted strip positioning detent disposed at the rear of said-table and over which the strip is drawn in positioning on the table. 1 1

In a device of the class described, the combination with a casing having a compartment for the storin of a record stri weak ened on transverse ines against ben ing resistance, a writing table at the top of said casing a strip ositioning detent displosed at the rear of said table and over whic the strip is drawn, and a floatin roller adapted to ride on the strip above sai detent.
