The main object of my invention is to provide an improved buckle. I
Another object is to provide means in a belt buckle for readily adjusting a relatively stiff belt strap without fear of the strap slipping after adjustment.
Objects relating to details and economies of my invention will appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined w and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the ac companying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a fragmentary front elevation of 1 a body belt having a buckle embodying my invention.

' Referring to the drawing, numeral 1 ingeneral indicates a belt, which comprises the curved plate-like buckle 2 and the relatively stiff strap 3. On its inner side near the ends thereof the plate-like buckle 2 is provided with a channel-like eye 4 and a hook or keeper 5. The keeper or hook 5 is adapted to be engaged by the ring 6 which is pivotally secured to the end 7 of the belt 8 which is folded back on itself and secured in any suitable manner.
Pivoted to the eye 4 is a loop or link 8 of substantially rectangular shape having a cross bar 9 extending parallel to the jaw 10. The link 8 is bent inwardly at 11 between the cross member 9 and its pivoted end 12 and forwardly at 13 between the cross member 9 and the jaw 10.
The end 14 of the belt 3 is folded at 15 around the cross member 9 so as to extend through the opening 16 between the cross member 9 and jaw 10 as illustrated. The end 14 is held adjacent to the belt 3 by the slide loop 17 which may be omitted without affecting the operation of the device.
After the length of the belt has been adjusted by increasing or decreasing the length of end 14 and a force is applied to the belt,

end 14, the link 8 is swung in line with the belt and the jaw 10 is forced by the pull on the link into the end 14, closing the loop or fold at 15 and clamping the jaw on the belt. In this manner the end 14 is prevented from slipping, and the more tension is applied the more will the jaw 10 bite into the end 14 of the belt.
When it is desired to again adjust the belt, the link 8 is swung inwardly about its pivot and the strap is slipped through the openin g 16 around the cross member 9. A pull on the belt causes the jaw 10 to bite into and close the loop as described above, which prevents the strap from slipping.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically describedembodiment of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An inwardly curved buckle plate provided with a channeled eye-piece secured to the back of said plate near a vertical edge thereof, and a. loop-like link pivoted to said eye-piece. said link having a vertical cross member adjacent to the free end thereof and being bent inwardlv between said cross member and the pivoted end thereof and the free end of said link being bent forwardly to constitute a 2. A buckle plate provided with an eyeniece secured to the back of said plate, and a loop-like link pivoted to said eye-piece, said link having a cross member adjacent to the free end thereof and being bent inwardly between said cross member and the pivoted end thereof, and the free end of said link being bent forwardly to constitute a jaw.
3. A buckle plate provided with an eyepiece secured to said plate, of a loop-like link pivoted tosaid evepiece, said link having a cross member adjacent to the free end thereof and being bent inwardly between said cross member and the pivoted end thereof and the free end of said link being bent forwardly to constitute a jaw.
4. A buckle plate having a loop-like llnk pivoted thereto, said link being provided with across member and with reverse bends between its pivoted and free ends on opposite sides of said cross member.
