Description

C. HEUZE POWER STOP June 28; 1932.
Filed'March 51. 1 928 m M l 1% v ,w w 7z. in 6 Patented June 28, 1932 TATES POWER sror Application filed March 31, 1928, Serial No. 266,417, and in Belgium February 14, 1928.
The present invention relates to a device for automatically breaking the circuit for transmiss1on of motlve power to a power re-v ceiving apparatus, when the mechanism driven by this apparatus does not run normally.
With this object in view, the invention proposes to control the position of said circuit breaking device by the displacement of a part actuated by the power receiving apw paratus.
Other details and particularities of the invention will become evident in the course of the description of the drawing annexed to the present specification, which shows diagrammatically by way of example, one form of realization of the invention.
In said drawing:
2 represents a power receiving apparatus consisting for instance, of an electric motor,
to which the current is supplied by means of a conductor 3. This conductor is connected electrically with an armature of an electromagnet 4, whereby said armature 4a is held in contact with the current lead 2a of the motor 2, so long as a current from a current source 5 acts on said electro-magnet.
In the circuit of the current source 5 is interposed a circuit breaker 6, mounted on a block 7, which has an alternating rotary movement about a pivot 7a.
This oscillatory or rotary reciprocatory movement may be controlled, for example, by the following mechanism: on the pivot 7 a I is mounted a lever 11 having connected to it a rod 12 which is articulated at the end of a bell-crank lever 13, one arm of which bears a roller 13a. The roller can be displaced by a cam 14 which has a rotary movement imparted to it by a suitable clockwork device b (not shown).
The movement of cam leis regulated in such a way that the block 7 occupies the position represented in dotted lines at the moment when a stop 10a carried by a part 10 driven by the motor 2 must pass by said block, if the motion of part 10 is normal. The
said part 10 may be driven, for example,
through the intermedia of a rack 10 actuated by a pinion 15 whic derives its motion from motor 2.
In the aforesaid dotted-line position of block 7, the stop 10a is out of reach of a stop 7; forming part of, or connected to, the switch or circuit breaker 6.
While said block 7 is in motion, the conductors 7 b and 7d ensure the closure of the circuit 5 by their sliding contact with the conductors 8 and 9.
If the motion of the part 10 is not regular, the stop 10a will strike the stop 7 7 when passing by the side of a block 7 and the circuit breaker 6 is opened. As a result, the current no longer passes through the el-ectro-magnet 4, and the armature 4a, in falling, cuts off the current from the motor 2.
A circuit breaking device of this kind is very useful in machinery for grinding, smoothing and polishing plate glass, such as used in glass works, and consisting of tables which support the glass plates and move continuously underneath the tools. In this case, said tables constitute the parts 10, and these tables can stop the whole installation, if for any reason they do not move regularly.
It is evident that the invention is not exclusively limited to the embodiment shown and that many modifications may be made in the shape, arrangement and constitution of the parts comprised in. said embodiment without exceeding its scope as claimed.
Thus the circuit breaker 6 might be interposed directly in the current lead to the motor 2; the motion of the block 7 might be rectilinear in a transverse direction transverse to the direction of movement of the parts 10.
What I claim is:
1. A device for breaking the feed circuit of a motor, comprising an interrupter in such .4 circuit; a relay circuit; a controller for said interrupter disposed in the relay circuit; a shiftable member operated by the motor; a circuit breaker in said relay circuit; and a carrier whereon the circuit breaker is mounted displaceable periodically in such a way as to'lie outside the path of movement of the shiftable member while still remaining electrically connected in the relay circuit during such periodic displacements.
2. A device for breaking the feed circuit of a motor, comprising an interrupter in such circuit, a controller for said interrupter shiftable by the motor, a member carrying the interrupter, means for displacing the said member independently of the said motor in such a Way as to place the interrupter periodically outside the path of movement of the shift-able controller, and means for maintaining the electrical connection of the interrupter with the feed circuit during its periodic displacements with the said member.
In testimony whereof I aflix my si ature.
