Abstract

386,833. Controlling motors. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. April 2, 1932, No. 9551. Convention date, April 2, 1931. [Class 35.] Relates to a speed regulator for an electrically driven knitting-machine, and is described in connection with a machine having an alternating current commutator motor regulated by altering the position of the brushes. The speed regulator is operated automatically for changing abruptly from high to low speed, or vice versa, by moving the brushes by means of auxiliary power between two stops. One or both of the stops 12, 22 may be adjustable, to allow for variation of the high or low speed or both. The brush holder bracket 1 is operatively connected to a pinion 7 engaging a rack 8. The rack 8 has secured to it an arm 11 engaging one stop 12, and has loosely mounted upon an extension 9 a member 10 carried by a bar 15. The bar 15 is controlled by a spring 16 and is held in one extreme position by a catch 17 which can be released by a tappet 19 of a tappet chain 20. Upon release of the rod 15, the member 10 engages the arm 11 and moves the rack 8 and bracket 1 abruptly until the member 10 engages the second stop 22. The bar 15 is returned against the action of the spring 16 by a cam 27, and on reaching its extreme position release of catch 29 associated with the rack 8, to allow the rack to be returned by a spring 9 to the position in which the arm 11 engages its stop 12. Two slow speeds may be provided by substituting two stops for the stop 22 and replacing the member 10 by a two part hinged member, of which one part can be moved by pattern mechanism to engage either stop. The stops 12, 22 may be resiliently mounted. In another arrangement, Fig. 5, the springs 9, 16 are replaced by an auxiliary motor 55, which rotates a disc 54 and stop member 57 between stops 12, 22. A switch 56 for the motor 55 is actuated to rotate the disc 54 in one direction by a tappet 19 and lever 18, and in the reverse direction by a cam 59, corresponding to the cam 27, and catch 58. Switches may be actuated when the stops 12, 22 are engaged by the member 57 either to break the circuit for the motor 55 or to weaken the current so that the auxiliary motor holds the member 57 against the stops.
