PATENT oFl-l GONTAIN'ER Application led January 1 9, 1929. .Serial No. 838,719.
This invention relates in general to portable one piece card board containers for packing bottles for easy distribution and display.
One of the objects of thisinvention is the provision of a one piece card board'container suitably shaped so that when folded along predetermined lines, it will provide a simple and handy container for bottles by means of which they may be easily carried about.
A. further object of this invention is -the provision of containers of this nature which `are easy to store when not in use.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a container of this nature which maybe easily folded up along predetermined lines to form a `carrier for bottles and the like by means of which they may be shipped, carried and displayed.
A further object of this invention is the provision of containers of this nature which are relatively simple in structure, adapted for 'cheap and ,rapid manufacture and etticient and rugged iniuse. v
' These and many other objects as'will appear from the following disclosure are secured by means of this invention.
This invention resides substantially in .the combination, construction and relative location of parts all as will be set forth more fully hereinafter.
Referring tothe drawings, y
Figure l is' a plan view .of the single piece comprising one form of container;
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the piece folded up to form the container;

Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 5.-5 of Fig. 4; v

Figs? and 8 are perspective vlews of modilied forms of contalners having display openmgs Fig. 9 is a perspective view of a modified form of container showing a different arrangement for closing it.
A detailreference to the drawings will now be-made in order thatthe principles of conl l struction and operation of this device may be understood. The container consists of one piece blank formed of suitable card board material Such as is now normally used in packing cartons. The container blank consists of the parts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. The parts 2 and 3 are united with part 1 along its edges and the parts 4 and 5 are united with they parts 2 and 3 respectively along their edges. 5o The outer edge of the parts 4 and 5 are provided with the short narrow strips 6 and 7 respectively. The parts l, 2, 3,- 4 and 5 are provided at each end with the parts 10, 11, 9, 12 and 8 respectively. Actually all these parts are formed of one single integral piece and delineated from each other by lines ot fold indicated by dot and dash lines in the drawings. The parts 8, 9, l0, 11 and 12 are separatedby slots as clearly shown in the drawings., The parts 4 and 5 are lrovided with elongated openings 13. When t e blank is folded up along the lines of fold the result is the container of the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The bottles or other objects are supported on the part l which forms the base of the contz'a.i1 1er.-r In folding up the blank the small ends 10 are iirst placed at right angles to the part 1. The parts 2 and 34 are then folded upwardly at right angles to the part 1 and the end parts 9 and 11 are folded at right angles to the parts 2 and 3 so as to meet as shown in Fig. 2 andenclose the end parts 10. Y
The parts 6 and 7 are folded so as to be a right angles to the parts 4 and 5 and then the parts 4 and 5 are inclined to the side parts 2 and 3 as is clearly shown in Fig..3. The end parts 8 and 12 are then folded to meet the line as clearly shown in Fig. 3.v The result is that the two ends and the top of the container are formed by the parts which abut each other which abutting joints canthen be sealed over and secured by means of gummed strips of paper. The openings 13 are now 95 I 1n ali nment 'and form a handle by means of which the container may be carried.
The arrangement shown in Figs. 4 and 5' diii'ers in that the line of closure which occurred at the top of the container in the first 1 A the flaps 17 an 5. wrappedat their form is now at the side. The container is shown comprising the narrow strip 14, the side portions 16 and 15, the inclined rtions 21 and 23 and the top portion 22. he side portion 15 is provided with the end lieces 17; the side portion 16 is provided wit the end (pieces 18; the base portion 14 is provide with the small tabs 27; the side portion 21 is provided with the end pieces 19; the 'side-portion 23 is provided with the end portions 20 and the top portion 22 lis provided with the short tabs 24; the side portions 21 and 23 are provided with elongated openings 25. In this-case the one iece blank is again folded along the lines of Fold but in- -stead of having the sides abut alon the line at the top the portions 21 and 15 a ut along the line 26.' As before all the 'butt joints may be sealed and secured by means of gummed tape.
The difference of the arrangement in Figs. 7 and 8 is that display Windows of any suitable form as shown at 30 and 31 may be provided through which the contents ofV the container may may be apphed to any formof device. By means of this simple structure a very convenient container is secured by means of which bottles and the like in a number de-. pnding upon the size of the container may packed for shipment, distribution and displa.x
e form of the device shown in Figure 9 diiers in one or two respects from the other forms disclosed. Ingeneral the structure is like that of Figure 4 in that the line of closure isat 40 corresponding to the line of-closure 26 in Figure 4. In this form of device however the end pieces 19 and 20 are eliminated s0 that, the ends of the cover or closure portion of the container are open. The joints atthe ends formed b the flaps correspondingto 18 in Figure 4 may be sealed and secured together by gummed tape. The cover for the container may be by means ofthe arrangement shown comprising buttons 41, secure to the main body portion and to the cover,- and strings 42 sec y at one end to the buttons on .the cover and other ends around-the buttonson this arrangement the container can be easily opened and held closed without the u'se of gummed tape.
-Features of principles may be embodied in many other physical forms without departing from the in the to be limited rather by the I se arated from eac having a Hat bottom and sides be displayed. These windows.
held closed the main body portion. By means ofthis invention reside in oertam principles of constructionl and opera-7 What I seek to secure by United States- Letters Patent is:
. 1. In a container made of a one piece blank the construction comprising a single body of. flexible material having at least seven united portions delineated by lines of fold between said portions, at least five of said seven portions having end ieces secured thereto but other by slots, said blank being adapted to be folded along the lines of delineation andthe end pieces bein adapted to be folded at the point where t ey unite with the said parts to yforni a closed container p comprising straight and inclined portions,
the inclined portions of the sides having openings to provide a handle for the container.
2. In a container made of a one piece blank the construction comprisin a single body of exible material having ateast seven united portions delineated of lines of fold between said portions, at least five of said seven portions having end ieces secured thereto but separated fromreac other b slots, said blank being adapted to-be folde along the lines of delineation and the end pieces being adapted to be folded at the oint where they unite with the said parts to orm a closed container having a flat bottom and sides comprising straight vand `inclined portions, the incline portions of the sides having openings to provide a handle for the container, at least one of said sides -having openin therein by means of which the contents o the container be display testimony-whereof I have hereunto set my hand on t 1929. f
