BUST-SUPPORTING GARMENT Application filed June s, 1929. Serial No. 368,842.
My invention relates to improvements in wearing apparel, and the same has for lts object more particularly to provide asimple,"
convenient and practical womans combination undergarment. r
Further, said invention has for its object to rovide an undergarment comprising a net 1er portion, and a body-portion having incorporated therewith novel bust supporting means.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide an undergarment comprising a nether portion, and a body portion having means for supporting or confining the bust of the wearer, and means for securing said bust supporting or confining means to adjusted position.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide an undergarment comprising an upper or body portion having bust sup orting or confining means formed as a part t ereof, and nether portion which may be in the form of a skirt or drawers pendant from said upper or body portion.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide an undergarment comp-rising an upper or body portion having bust supporting or confining means, and a nether portion depending from said body portion provided at its lower edge with stocking supporting means.
Other objects will in part be obvious, and in part be pointed out hereinafter.
To the attainment of the aforesaid objects and ends my invention consists in the novel details of construction, and in the combination, connection and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and then pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is. a front View illustrating on embodiment of the invention as it appears on the wearer;
Fig. 2 1s a corresponding side View Fig. 3 1s a corresponding rear view;

' The garments to which this invention may be applied are, in general, undergarments'or garments for wear close to'the body. It should, therefore, be understood that'the term undergarment, wherever it appears in the specification and claims, is intended to cover similar garments, such as bathing suits, and-should be so interpreted.
According to one embodiment of the into vention, an undergarment comprising a body portion and a nether portion, which may be in-t-he form of drawers, is provided with suitable pouches or pockets to receive the breasts of the wearer and'these pouches are 05 formed by strips of reinforcement in the eneral form of a figure 8, there being one oop These loops outline the the back of the garment andform bustsupporting and confining means.
' The loops are supported at their tops or ap ices close to the front ends of the shoulder straps and preferably to the reinforced parts of the garment to which the front ends of the straps are attached, as by suitable buckles. Under the arms the lines of reinforcement converge gradually to points which are connected across the baclrof the wearer in any suitable manner as by use of a strap adjustable as to length secured permanently at one end to one of said points under the arms and detachablyto the other of said points. Due tosuch adjustability. the bust supporting and confining device may be adjusted to conform closely to the contours of the body. The material of the,
pouches within the lines of reinforcement may be the same as that of the rest of the garment and in some cases it may be rein-' forced, as by meanslof a suitable lining.
Another embodiment of the present invention is in connection with an undergarment including a skirt portion with 'the body,
as Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings, 1O designatesan undergarment having a body portion 11 and a nether portion 12. The body portion may be, provided with a strip 13 of'reinforcing material at its upper edge and may be suspended from the shoulders of the wearer by shoulder straps 14c having their forward ends preferably detachably secured by suitable means, such as snap fasteners Ma. In the garment illustrated in these figures of the drawings, the nether garment is in the form of drawers and is pronected at their lower ends with straps 17 extending between the legs of the wearer" and connected at theirother ends with the rear of the arment at points 18, and garters 19 at the sides connected at their lower ends with straps 20 connected at theirr other,
ends with, said nether portion at points 20". The body portion 1 1 of the garment has incorporated therewith bust supporting means which include breast receiving pockets or pouches 21 outlined and reinforced at their edges by suitablemeans such as strips of taping 22 arranged in the general form of a figure 8 of which the loops extend rearwardly at the sides of the garment to points 23. In order to provide a suitable bust supportingor confining efiect at the front, the points 23. are connected at the back of the garment by suitable means such as a strap 24, of suitable material, secured at one of said points 23 tothe taping and other material, and detachably-connected at the other point 23 by means of a fixed clasp member 25 and a clasp member 26 adjustable in po sition on the strap 24. Preferably this strap 24 is arranged at the inside of the material of the body portion as indicated in Fig. 4. In Figs. 5, 6 and 7 there is illustrated an embodiment of the invention as applied to a garment in which the nether garment is a skirt 28. The bust supporting and confining means may be formed in the same manner as for the garmentshown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 and corresponding parts will be designated by the'same reference numerals. As indicated inboth forms illustrated the taping 22 of each of the loops of the. figure 3 converges at the top to a point or, apex 29 adjacent the front end of the adjacent shoulder strap and is preferablysecured to the reinforced portion of the body portion 11 towhich the shoulder strap 1% is attached by any suitable means, such as fasteners 30. The taping extends downwardly from these points or apices 29 in such .a manner that the breasts are supported largely from these points. The connection between the strips of taping at 31, the joining point of the two loops, maintains the desired transverse spread of the pouches in connection with the strips of taping running from the point 31 along the lower edges of the pouches to the points 23, and from the points 29 to the points 23. Also as a result of the gradual convergence of the strips of taping toward the points 28, the pull onthese strips from the rear of the garment is exerted more nearly around the body than up and down.
The garment may be made in knitted, woven or other material, and may be elastic or inelastic as desired. Further the shaping of the body port-ion at' the pouches may be effected in'any suitable manner, as for exsample, by producing a fullness in the mate. -ria l -ofthebody portion by means of the taping or bynse of gussets. Furthermore the materialof the body portion may be lined or not according to the requirements. id urther, it is'to be noted that instead of outlining the pockets 'or pouches .21 with strips of taping 22', that the said strips, or
analogous strips, may be sh-irred and sewed .along ithem edges to the body'of the garment toform casings to receive strips of elastic webbing which may be secured at their opposite ends to the body of the garment in order to render the pockets or pouches 421 more yielding and thus permit the same to conform more readily to the breasts of the wearer.
, It should 7 be understood that various changes may be made in the constructionand arrangement of the parts and that various parts may be used without others without departing from the true scope and spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what T claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1s:
