Description

Patented June 14, 1932 UNITED STATES JAMES A. TISCORNIA, 0F SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA PASTE DISPENSIN G TUBE Application led November 12, 1930. Serial No. 495,097.
This invention relates particularly to that type of tube used for tooth paste, shaving cream, etc.
It is one object of the invent-ion to provlde means whereby the contents of the tube may be forcibly spread upon the surface to which it is applied immediately upon its discharge from the tube.
It is another object of the invention to provide means of the character indicated that forms an integral part of the tube closure so as to practically eliminate the chances of its being misplaced.
It is still another object to provide a combination closure-applicator that will function without removing any part from the tube and that is self cleaning and sanitary.
It is also an object of the invention to pro vide a device of the character indicated that will be economical to manufacture, of few parts, simple in form and construction, and highly eicient in its practical application.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a plan View of one form of my invention in position upon a tube.
Figure 2 isa side elevation of the same.
Figure 3 is another side elevation of the same, part broken away.
Figure 4 is an end elevation of another emboliment ofthe invention in position on a tu e.
Referring now more particularly to the particular form of the invention herein disclosed, I show at l a portion of a collapsible tube having a cap 2 mounted thereon in the usual manner.
The cap 2 has an oblong plate-like portion as 3 formed upon its outer end, this plate presenting an outwardly directed spreader surface as 4 lying in a plane disposed at right angles to the long axis of the tube. This cap has a discharge passage, 5 formed therethrough on the axis of the tube, and has a transversely disposed slot 6 extending therethrough and intersecting the passage 5.
In the slot 6 is mounted a slide 7 having a hook-like end 8 adapted to engage the edge of plate 3 as at 9, in which position the slide functions as a closure for the passage 5. To open the passage pressure is brought to bear against end 10 of the slide thereby -disengaging end 8 from plate 3 and moving the orifice 11 in slide 7 into registration with passage 5. With the slide in this latter position the contents of' theitube -may be discharged inthe usual manner.
It is obvious from the foregoing disclosure that when the slide is in the position shown in Figure 3 the tube is perfectly sealed, and the slide is held against accidental displacement. When it is desired to use some of the paste upon a tooth brush it is only necessary to operate the slide as above set forth whereupon the required amount of paste may be squeezed out. By pressing the plate 3 against the brush and sliding it along on the same as the paste is discharged, the paste is spread upon the brush and pressed between the bristles in such a manner that it is effectually retained in place until used. An important feature of' this invention is that the discharge passage is opened and closed by merely sliding the part 7 in the desired direction, no part being removed from the tube to effect the opening of the passage.
By means of this construction the tube is sealed at its very end, and the movement of the spreader over the brush at right angles to the direction of movement of the slide renders it self cleaning and prevents accumulation of paste upon the slide and the parts touched by the fingers.
In the embodiment of the invention shown l in Figure 4 the face of the spreader is curvihuear 1n transverse cross sectlon to form a channel as 12 through which the brush, shown in part at 13, is drawn, the curving sides effectually prevent-ing lateral displacement of' the cream on the brush even when but little .pressure is applied in depositing the cream on the brush.
It is to be understood, of course, that while I have herein shown anddescribed but one specific embodiment of the invention, changes.
1n form, construction, and method'of assembly and operation may be made within the scope of theappended claim.
I claim:
A spreader head for collapsible paste tubes comprising, an elongated element disposed on 2 Lseaevo the cud of the tube crosswise thereof and provided With an outwardly directed spreader surface curvilinear in transverse cross-section and having a passage formed therein. Communicating with said surface and the interior of the tube, the said element having a slot formed therethrough crosswise thereof and intersecting said passage, and an element slidably mounted in said slot and having an orifice formed therein registrable With said passage.
