IMPROVEMENT IN EASY-CHAIRS- Speeification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,156, dated January 9, 1877; application filed September 16,1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY PARKER, of Osawatomie, in the county of Miami and State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Easy-Chair, of which the following is a specification:

My improvement consists in pivoting the back of the chair to a supporting-frame, and pivoting the back, bottom, and foot-pieces together, so that the back and foot-piece may be placed at any angle between a horizontal and vertical position. The parts are pivoted together in such a manner that the back and foot-piece are always parallel to the same line.

A is the frame of the chair, consisting of the legs a, connected by the bars b, and to the upper ends of which the arm 0 is attached. The side pieces thus formed are connected at the back by the diagonal braces d and at the front by the bars 6 and f. B is the back,
'which consists of the side pieces 9, crosspieces h, vertical bars 41 attached to the bars h, and the cushion G, hinged at j, and adjusted by a screw, it. The back is pivoted to the upper ends of the rear legs a at l, and is also pivoted to the seat D, which, in the present case, consists of the curved bars m and slats n. The front ends of the bars m rest upon the bar f, and are pivoted to the upper ends of the side pieces of the foot-piece E. Brace-rods o are pivoted to the lower ends of the side pieces 9 of the back and to the foot-piece E, in such a way that the back and foot-piece, when moved into any position, are parallel to the same line. The back and foot-piece are capable of being thrown into any position between a horizontal and vertical. In moving the back the bars in of the seat are made to slide over the bar f, which produces sufficient friction to hold the chair in any required position, but not enough to prevent the chair from being readily adjusted to any position.
The chair is intended for the use of dentists and barbers, and also as an easy or invalid chair. It may be made as shown and discribed, or it may be upholstered or provided with a cane bottom and back.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of back B, pivoted to the seat and upper ends of the rear logs, the foot-piece E, connected with the back by pivoted bars 0, and the seat D, having slidebars m pivoted to foot-piece E, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The head-cushion (J, pivoted at j, in a front recess of back B, and made adjustable, substantially as and for the purpose specifled.
