RECEPTACLE FOR RAZOR BLADES Filed March 17, 1950 R. o. m raoomv INVENTOR ATTORN EY5 Patented May 31, 1932 ROBERT D. MCFADDAN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS RECEPTACLE FOR RAZOR BLADES Application filed March 17, 1980. Serial No. 436,560.
' My invention relates to improvements in receptacles for razor blades, and it consists 'in the combinations, constructions, and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide a receptacle for razor blades of a type particularly adapted to be used in hotels and the like andwhich is further adapted'to be hung in Various convenient places for receiving discarded razor blades.
A further object is to provide a device of the type described in which the receptacle may be formed from a single sheet of material and formed in such a manner as to be relatively simple in construction and easy to assemble.
A further object is to provide a device of the type described which is formed in a novel manner, whereby the device maybe packed in a flat and compact relation and in substantially assembled conditions.
A further object is to provide a device of the type described which is ornamental in appearance and constructed in such aman 25 ner that advertising and the like may be associated therewith.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary detail view of a portion ofmy device,
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken along the line 33 of Figure 2,
Figure 4: is a plan view of the blank prior to its being folded, and
Figure 5 is a detail view of a portion of the device.
In carrying out my invention, I make use of a blank 1 such as that shown in Figure 4, which is cut to provide a main body portion 2 having an opening 3 therein. The body portion is narrowed slightly at 4:, which of course is optional since the body portion may be formed in any desired shape. The specific formation in'the present instance is merely one of many suggested types. The body portion is provided with laterally projecting flat portions 5 having recesses 6. It will be noted that the recesses are oppositely. arranged with respect to each other.
The blank is scored as at 7 and 8 upon opposite sides of the body portion, as shown in Figure 4. It will be noted that the scored lines 7 are inclined with respect to the lines 8. The lines 7 merge with the lines 8 at the point where the flaps 5 merge with the body portion 2. The body portion is provided with a scored line 9 which merges with the merging of the lines 7 and 8. In completing, the receptacle, the body portion is folded along the line 9 and the flaps 5 are then folded backwardly around the body portion, at which time the ends of the flaps may be operatively connected together as shown in Fig-.- ure 2. In other words, the recesses 6 provide end portions 10 which permit the flaps to be locked together. The folding of the body portion along the'line 9 provides a portion 11 having openings 12 therein. This portion forms the front face of the receptacle, as indicated in Figure 1. Thematerial between therespective lines 7 and 8 provides tapered end portions 13, see Figuresl and 3.
In referring to Figure 3, it will be noted I that the tapered construction of the receptacle provides a container for blades in which the blades are supported substantially in a vertical plane and in which the blades, when dropped therein, are frictionally supported in a sense. The receptacle is further arranged to support a large number of the blades and to support them in such a manner that the accidental shaking or moving of the device will not dislodge the blades from their recep tacle. That part of the body portion projecting above the portion 11 may be provided with any suitable ornamental design as well as advertising matter. The openings 12 expose the interior of the receptacle to view. An important feature in connection with my invention is the fact that the flaps 5 may be moved slightly to angular positions withrespect to each other, as shown in Figure 5,. whereby the devices may be arranged in compact form and in substantially assembled condition for shipment and the like.
It is highly desirable, particularly in the hotel business, to provide a suitable receptacle for receiving discarded razor blades. Heretofore the blades have been thrown into waste paper baskets, upon the floor, and in lavatories and the like. Frequently the plumbing systems in buildings have been impaired. This has necessitated considerable needless expense. It will be noted in referring to Figure 3 that the receptacle is formed in such a manner that the container for the blades projects a slight distance beyond the face of the body portion 2. This feature provides a device which incorporates a pleasing appearance as well as being efficient for the purpose intended. The device may be suspended from any suitable supporting element by means of the opening 3.
I claim:
1. A container formed from a single sheet of material and comprising a body portion having an end portion thereof provided with a pair of extending portions, said end portion being folded on a line transverse to the body portion, each of said extending portions in conjunction with the end portion being folded on a pair of lines angularly positioned with respect to each other and converging at an edge of their respective extending portions, said extending portions being provided with slots therein whereby the same may be connected together.
2. A container formed from a single sheet of material and comprising a body portion having an end portion thereof provided with a pair of oppositely disposed and transverse ly extending portions, said end'portion being folded on a line transversely positioned with respect to the body portion'and terminating at the junctures of the extending portions with the body portion whereby said end portion may be positioned at an angle with respect to the body portion, each of said extending portions in conjunction with the end portion being folded on a pair of lines angularly positioned with respect to each other and converging at an edge of their respective extending portions, said extending portions being provided with slots therein whereby the same may be connected together.
